  • What’s a Mennonite?O Leah Peters (posted on Facebook)O men·non·ite/ˈmenəˈnīt . Most people / associate it with bonnets and buggies. To me it means peace, love, community, respect, and a love for God and Christ. True story.
  • Peace / JusticeO Red Brother"In the early 70s, I met Native Canadiansfor the first time. I began to understand theirsituation and the history that led to it. Therewas this cab driver in Regina… taking ussomewhere and recommending raciallycorrect establishments."

  • Peace / JusticeO The Mines Of Mozambique"Now you can travel around the country, butyou have to watch where you put your feet. The cities are still full of displaced peopleand many of them have missing parts.[Finding mines] is so slow. They have to findeverything by hand. Its very dangerouswork and very costly work."
  • Peace / JusticeTheres a broad river windingThrough this African lowlandThe moon is held up orange and bigSee it raise its handsAnd the last ferrys pulling outWith no place left to standFor the mines of Mozambique
  • Peace / JusticeTheres a wealth of amputationWaiting in the groundBut no one can rememberWhere they put it downIf youre the child that finds it thereYou will rise upon the soundOf the mines of Mozambique
  • Peace / JusticeSome men rob the passersbyFor a bit of cash to spendSome men rob whole countries dryAnd still get called their friendAnd under the feeding frenzyTheres a wound that will not mendIn the mines of Mozambique
  • Peace / JusticeNight, like peace,Is a state of suspensionTomorrow the heat will riseAnd mist will hide the marshy fieldsThe mango and the cashew treesWhich only now theyre clearing brush fromunder.
  • Peace / JusticeRusted husks of blown up trucksLine the roadway north of townLike passing through a sculpture galleryWar is the artistBut hes sleeping nowAnd somebody will be peddling vials ofpenicillin stolen out of all the medical kitssent to the countryside.
  • Peace / JusticeAnd in the bare workshop theyll be moldingplastic into little prosthetic limbsFor the children of this artistAnd for those who farm the soil thatreceivedHis bitter seed...
  • Peace / JusticeThe all-night stragglers stagger homeCocks begin to crowAnd singing birds are starting upTelling what they knowAnd after awhile the sun will comeAnd well see what it will showOf the mines of Mozambique
  • Peace / JusticeIf I Had A Rocket Launcher

  • Respect/HumilityO “Having an audience is wonderful, but I don’t aspire to having followers”O
  • Respect/HumilityO One Day I WalkO Street busking - "It’s a scary proposition. As something of my own initiative, I’m not likely to do that. Unless, of course, I have to do it to make a living. You can never rule these things out. If it came down to it, I would cheerfully do it.”
  • Respect/HumilityOh I have been a beggarAnd shall be one againAnd few the ones with help to lendWithin the world of men One day I walk in flowers one day I walk on stones Today I walk in hours One day I shall be home

  • Respect/HumilityO Burden of the Angel/BeastO "Its an observation of an aspect of the human condition. The inability to grasp where we are at any given moment and go with it. Which is unfortunately too common a problem."
  • Respect/HumilityO I think we are redeemed spiritually but in terms of our earthly existence, [that beastly potential] is always there, no matter how much you try to let yourself do good. We are the weird animals we are, and we seem to be straddling this gap with one foot in the animal world entirely and the other foot in something weve never been able to entirely define for ourselves."

  • ValuesO All the DiamondsO This is a song I wrote the day after I actually took a look at myself and realized that I was a Christian in fact -- which I guess, is a kind of conversion. It was a very long term, slow one, not the light and voice from heaven like St. Paul. But when it finally was over, I had to look at my life and either commit myself to it or pass. Fortunately I was invited to commit myself to it and I wrote this song right after.
  • ValuesTwo thousand years and half a world awayDying trees still grow greener when youpray
