  5. 5. The Legislative Branch• The Legislative Brach is made up of Congress.• Congress is made up of the Senate and the House of Representatives.• It is the Congress’s job to make all the laws for our country.BACK NEXT
  6. 6. The Senate • The Senate is made up of 100 members. There are 100 members because there are two from each state. • Senators are elected for 6 years. • A senator must live in the state he/she is elected for and they must be at least 30 years old. • A senator must have been a citizen of the United States for a minimum of 9 years.BACK NEXT

The House of Representatives• The House of Representatives has 435 members.• States with a large population will have a lot of representatives.• States with small populations will only have a few representatives.• Members of The House of Representatives will be elected for 2 years and theymust live in the state they are representing.• They have to be at least 25 years old and they must have been a citizen of theUnited States for at least 7 years. The Executive Branch• The executive branch of the government makes sure the law of the United Statesare followed.• Our president is the head of the United States executive branch.• This branch is very large so the President receives help from the vice president,cabinet members, and other agencies. The Judicial Branch• The judicial branch of government includes the court system.• The Supreme Court is the highest of the court system.• It is the court’s job to decide the meaning of laws, how they are applied, andwhether they go against our rights in the Constitution.• The Supreme Court is made up of nine Justices, or judges.
