  • Horror GenreHorror film is a genre that aims to create a sense of fear, panic, alarm, and dread for the audience.Horror films are often unsettling and rely on scaring the audience through a portrayal of their worst fearsand nightmares. Horror films usually centre on the arrival of an evil force, person, or event. Many Horrorfilms include mythical creatures such as ghosts, vampires, and zombies. Traditionally, Horror filmsincorporate a large amount of violence and gore into the plot. Though it has its own style, Horror filmoften overlaps into Fantasy, Thriller, and Science-Fiction genres. There are many subgenres inHorror, some of the time there can be a collaboration of many genres into one movie.
  • Sub GenreSci-Fi Horror/ MonsterThis is sub-genre of Horror that centres on a struggle betweenhuman beings and an un-human creature. Often, themonster/Alien in the film has been created in an experimentgone wrong. The Alien/monster usually serves as a villain, andthe film portrays a hero or heroine that ultimately saves theworld from the monster. Although these movies commonly fallinto the Horror genre, Monster films have a long tradition withinScience-Fiction and Fantasy film as well.Examples: Aliens, Alien v predictor, resident evil
  • Comedy-HorrorComedy-Horror combines comedy with traditional horror movie themes andcharacters. Because of the subject matter, Comedy-Horrorfilms can cross over into the Black Comedy sub-genre.Comedy-Horror films aim to scare the audience, but alsoprovide comical outlets that let the audience laugh at theirfear. Shaun of the dead is a perfect example of a horrormovie with a genre crossover, by have the genre of comedyand zombie/slasher.Examples: Beetlejuice, haunted mansion Shaun of the Dead,Scary movie
  • Teen-HorrorTeen-Horroris a sub-genre that revolves completely around a teenager or a group ofteenagers. Typically, these movies have a large cast and a clear hero orheroine. Teen-Horror films often play upon traditional teenage issues, such asdating and prom, and turn them into suspenseful and thrilling situations.Examples: I Know What You Did Last Summer, Scream trilogy, TexasChainsaw Massacre.
  • SlasherSlasher filmis a sub-genre of Horror film that revolves around a psychopathic killer.This killer stalks and murders his victims in extremely violent andmemorable ways. Though it centres on a specific killer, the violence iswhat sets Slasher films apart from other horror films. A Slasher film willdevote more screen time to portray murder and mayhem than atraditional Horror film.Examples: Halloween, My Bloody Valentine, Black Christmas.
  • Supernatural-HorrorSupernatural-Horror film is a sub-genre that includes ghosts, demons, or otherdepictions of supernatural occurrences. Often, Supernatural-Horror filmscombine elements of religion into the plot. Common themes in Supernatural-Horror films include the afterlife, the devil, and demonic possession. UnlikeReligious Thrillers, Supernatural-Horror films are not limited to specific religiouselements and can contain more vivid and gruesome violence.Examples: The Exorcist, The Ring, The Omen.
  • Zombie-HorrorZombie film is a sub-genre of Horror film that portrays mindless human beings who areraised from the dead. These films often include a Zombie invasion, andcentre around Zombies feasting on human flesh. The plot of a Zombie filmthen revolves around the struggle between the living, and the living-dead.Zombie film not only falls into the Horror genre, but Sci-Fi, Thriller, andComedy as well.Examples: Night of the Living Dead, Shaun of the Dead, 28 Days Later.
