How To Have A Stress Free Christmas - Presentation Transcript

    1. How to Have a Stress-Free Christmas
      • For some people, just thinking about the holidays and all that they entail is enough to raise both their blood pressure and their stress levels. Christmas is supposed to be a joyous time of the year to spend with family and friends making memories you'll cherish for years to come. But, if you start to find yourself feeling more and more like Ebenezer Scrooge and less and less like celebrating, use the following simple tips to help you have a stress-free and enjoyable Christmas.
    2. Making (and Following) To-Do Lists
      • If you aren't the type of person who makes and follows lists, you should be at least for the holidays if you want to ensure you'll get everything done and retain your sanity at the same time. Begin writing your list in November, or earlier, leaving plenty of space to add on extra tasks as they arise. Include a spot to check off things that have been done and underline or use an asterisk to make notations by tasks that are top priority.
    3. Using a Christmas Budget
      • While you've got a pen and paper handy, or using your computer to type up your lists, make a holiday budget and also make a promise to yourself that you'll finally stick with it this year. Money is one of the top stressors during the holidays, causing people to be miserable instead of being able to simply enjoy the beauty of the season.
      • Your budget should feature separate sections for food, decorations, and of course, gifts, which should be further divided into family, friends, grab bags at work, et cetera. If you've got a large family or many friends who all exchange presents at Christmas time, consider suggesting a grab bag where everyone draws names and a set amount is named as the price limit for the gifts. This way everyone gets something and no one has to break the bank in the process.
    4. Asking for Help in Christmas Preparation
      • Don’t be shy about asking for help during the holidays, as after all, isn't Christmas supposed to be about giving to others?
      • If you have children, regardless of their age, each can be assigned a few tasks to complete, some of which can keep them busy and out from under your feet, but also make them feel like an important part of the holidays at the same time.
      • Give everyone their own lists to follow, and if you're having a big family get together, ask everyone to bring a dessert, or an appetizer, or something to contribute to the celebration.
    5. Make Time for Yourself in the Holiday Season
      • Last, but certainly not least, remember to make time for yourself in the days just before Christmas so you'll be able to truly enjoy the day with everyone.
      • Whether it's just sitting quietly for a half hour listening to some soothing Christmas music, or taking a stolen cat nap in the middle of the afternoon, or getting a professional manicure, or stealing away to the spa for a day of pampering, make sure you do something to keep yourself in check and also keep your stress levels at a minimum.
