The Different Types of Industrial Recycling Equipment

  1. 1. The Different Types of IndustrialRecycling Equipment
  2. 2. Overview of Industrial RecyclingEquipment• In a world where natural resourcesare dwindling fast, industrialrecycling operations are critical forecosystem health. Moderntechnology has brought forth anumber of efficient machines thatenable companies to recyclemetal, glass, paper, electronics, and certain types of plastic. Heavyequipment allows recycling plantsto quickly sort and compact nearlyall of the materials that arecollected from the surroundingregion.
  3. 3. Compactors• Usually powered by hydraulics, compactors are vital to therecycling industry. Strong metalplates are typically used tocompress material into muchsmaller volumes. Because spaceis often at a premium at recyclingplants, compactors allow morematerial to be stored at the facility. The devices are particularly usefulfor scrap metal processing. High-end models are completelyenclosed during the compressionprocess for minimum spillage.
  4. 4. Conveyors• Industrial conveyors are usuallybuilt to feed recyclable materialsinto balers. Because recyclingcenters sometimes processmaterials intermittently, conveyorshave adjustable controlmechanisms so that they can beslowed down or shut off asneeded. Most conveyors haveside wings to prevent bulkiermaterial from being pushed overthe rails.
  5. 5. Shredders•Recycling plant operatorsgenerally use shredders to cutobjects into smaller componentparts. Composite materials thatare made from wood and plasticcan be broken down and thenreconstituted into new products. Some shredders are quite specificin what they are designed to do,and many of them are alternativelyknown as grinders, chippers, granulators, or hammermills. All-purpose shredders are truebehemoths and can efficientlyprocess circuit boards, householdappliances, and even cars.
  6. 6. Densifiers• While compactors are meant tosort through mixed waste, densifiers are designed to workwith only one kind of material at atime. Plastic bottles and aluminumcans are both good candidates fordensifiers. Agglomerators arespecial kinds of densifiers that areused to process thermoplasticfilm. When the film is heated to acertain temperature, it fusestogether naturally. As soon as thishas occurred, the film is cooleddown again using a techniqueknown as water injection. Thegranules themselves are thensorted out and sent on to theirdesired locations.
  7. 7. Trommels•Trommels are cylinders that aregenerally used to sort recyclablematerials by size. Most of thesedevices have screens that willcollect items and objects that areto be reused. Industrial trommelscreens come equipped withbrushes, remote controls, andreversible infeeds. Trommels aremost useful for separatingreusable materials frombiodegradable waste that is oftenintermixed with glass, plastic, andaluminum. Radial stackingconveyors are sometimesattached to the devices so thatmore material can be processed inone session.
  8. 8. Recycling to Save the Earth• As ecosystems continue tobecome degraded, recycling willbecome increasingly vital to thehealth of the planet. Industrialrecycling equipment allows allsorts of materials to be processed, cleaned, and reused atastonishingly fast rates. As newermodels continue to come online, the recycling process will surelybecome even more efficient. Withmore Canadian corporationsenacting environmentally friendlypolicies, the future of the Earthmay yet be bright.
