It is as much a sin to NOT DO something that we aught to do as it is to DO something that we aught not.
There is no way around the command to “go”!
Yes, we let our light so shine before men (Mt 5:16),
BUT
We MUST also verbally declare the good news of salvation
Declaring the Gospel
Why must we declare the Gospel?
It is an urgent message
We do not know the time of the Lord's return (Lk 12:40), nor do we know the time of someone's death (Jm 4:14).
There may not be enough time for someone to see a difference in us and ask.
We are but sinners saved by grace
Although we strive for holiness, we still fall into sin (Rm 7:14-15)
The heathen look for a chance to say, “Oh! So that is how a follower of Christ behaves!”
St. Francis of Assisi
“ Preach the Gospel at all times. Where necessary, use words.”
Unlikely that St. Francis actually said this
“ It made as much since as 'Feed starving children. Where necessary, use food.'” – Ray Comfort in Worldview Times Aug 14, 2007
Do Unto Others
Were you lead to salvation and repentance by observing the Gospel or by hearing the Gospel?
Were it not for the clear declaration of the Gospel by the Apostles (Ac 20:26-27), the church would likely be non-existent.
If you have cancer, and someone possesses the cure, would you rather they play charades with you or scream, “I have the cure!”
Something much greater than the cure to cancer has been entrusted to us.
“Depraved Indifference”
A fireman that sits idly by as a family burns to death would not be a good fireman.
Many Christians sit idly by in worship and prayer for revival not realizing that obedience to the Great Commission is an act of worship.
Evangelism: An Act of Worship
We worship God by obeying Him (Jn 14:15)
We worship God and show our love for Him by sharing Him with others.
We praise what we love! (Ex. a stadium full of fans pulling for their team)
We have been shown such kindness and such love. How can we help but share it with others?!
How must we feel about the lost to not witness?
Penn Jillette
Witness For the Glory of God
When we share God with others, we are implicitly saying, “My God is wonderful! Won't you glorify Him with me?”
The unsaved notice what we do and do not do.
By our lack of witnessing, we show the world that we do not have anything special to share with them
BUT, when we are faithful witnesses, the message comes across loud and clear that we have a message that is so important we will share it no matter how uncomfortable it may make us.
