Ca1 research on broadband

  1. 1. Research on Broadband in Dublin 4 Rosanne Cosgrove DL242 Year 4
  2. 2. Introduction  “Broadband refers to telecommunication in which a wide range of frequencies is available to transmit information”(WAN Technologies 2)  Broadband is one of the easiest ways to access the internet. It is used in every household.  It is vital to have broadband if you have a small business.
  3. 3. Aim  The aim of this research is to find out which broadband service suits my small business. I am looking at various broadband companies and comparing prices.
  4. 4. Broadband statistic  “3,0402,600 Internet users as of June/10, 65.8% of the population, by ITU”(Internet World Stats)
  5. 5. Companies providing broadband         Digiweb Imagine Magnet Onwave Q Sat Sky Smart Telecom UPC http://www.uswitch.ie/broadband/local/dublin4/(Broadband Dublin 4)
  6. 6. Companies providing broadband  UTV Connect  Vodafone http://www.uswitch.ie/broadband/local/dublin4
  7. 7. Mobile Broadband  E-mobile  O2 mobile broadband  Vodafone(Vodafone Simply Broadband)  3 Mobile Broadband http://www.uswitch.ie/broadband/local/dublin4
  8. 8. Type of telecommunications companies  Wireless, Digital Communication system that is intended for wireless metropolitan area networks. Services broadband, telephone and mobile broadband for home and business.  http://www.uswitch.ie/broadband/local/dubli n4
  9. 9. Medium of communication  DSL(Digital Subscriber Line) This medium isn't very popular. It is transmitted through your phone line.  Cable- If you have cable you need to obtain a modem and you are charged for the TV and broadband connections.  Satellite- This medium would be ideal for people living outside the city. It is tricky to install and costly.  Wireless-This is the most common medium. The speed is fast and you don’t require a phone line.   http://www.westnet.ie/broadband-types/
  10. 10. Technological Options  Satellite  Wireless  Cable
  11. 11. Technical Specifications  DigiwebFast broadband- 70MB €29.95 per month  Magnet Fatpipe 24High Speed, unlimited downloads No contract 24 MB €35.00 per month   Q Sat Low Cost satellite broadband 3 months half price 10Mb €17.50 per month  Imagine 10 Mb Wimax And calls €25 discount for students €19 per month Onwave Fast- reliable Up to 2 Mb 29.95 per month  http://www.uswitch.ie/broadban d/local/dublin-4/(Broadband Dublin 4)
  12. 12. Technical Specifications  Sky Broadband Unlimited and Talk Freetime Unlimited evening and weekend calls 24Mb €30.00 per month  Smart Telecom Free Smart to Smart Phone Calls 24 Mb €29.95 per month  UPC Basics Collection Unlimited Fibre power broadband 50 Mb €30.00 per month  UTV Connect Super Fast Broadband 40€ per month http://www.uswitch.ie/broadban d/local/dublin-4/(Broadband Dublin 4)
  13. 13. Costs for SOHO/ Mobile Business For a small office- home office I would choose the Vodafone package. Vodafone- 4G- USB stick It has high speed and has 42Mb. €29.99 monthly. This would be very useful if you’re travelling around with work.
  14. 14. Option that suits my business  The option that suits my small business the best is the UPC Basis collection which is €30.00 per month.  Although they have a bad reputation and are often difficult to contact the package is reasonably cheap and very fast.  Vodafone 4- G – USB stick is my second choice priced at €29.99 per month. If I had to travel for work I would pick this option.
