Why did I choose to do my find-out on Tashkent instead of Hawaii or Fiji or someplace like that? Because my dad’s from Uzbekistan (Used to by a part of Russia)! That’s why!!!
Tashkent is the capital of Uzbekistan . The population is over 3 million.
In medieval times the town was known as “Chach”. Later, the town came to be known as “Chachkand/Chashkand”, meaning “Chach city”.
After the 16 th century, the name was eventually changed slightly to Tashkand, which means “stone city”.
What’s so special about it?
It’s a city of contrasts, with impressive buildings, old and new. The city itself is over two thousand years old!
Climate So, what’s the climate? Tashkent has a big range of temperatures. Winter in January is zero degrees, while in summer it can reach forty degrees, which is equal to Perth in western Australia. Why does Tashkent have such extreme temperatures? Because it is land-locked, unlike New Zealand which has sea all around it.
Thanks for listening to my power-point. Now you know where I’m half from. One last thing, …:
