Installing The Wireless Network - Presentation Transcript

    1. Installing the Wireless network You may just be at the point, where the little wired home network you created a few months ago is not doing it for you to any further extent and you want to extend it with a wireless network. Obviously, you might as well be at that point, where you want to build a completely new network. Whatever the reasons may be, the problem is the same – you are required to know exactly how a wireless network installation is done in Ontario, Canada & USA. Most of the time, you will get it necessary to install a wireless router. Now, you will only have to install one of these if you either are building your first home network or simply want the wireless network installation at the simplest level, if possible. You must remember to install the router in a rather central location at your home so this way all receivers will be almost in the same line of sight. You see, with wireless internet, the speed depends upon the distance from the router to the receiver. All you have to do is to connect your router to a power source, and certainly an internet source. These days many routers support broadband modems as well as dial-up connections. Still, when you purchase a router, you must make sure that it has an RS-232 serial port if look for dial-up connection, otherwise you will find yourself having a useless router. Finally, but not the least, you may also connect a wired router (called a switch or a hub) because wireless routers generally contain built-in access points. Now, you should decide the name of your network. Often with Wi-Fi, the network names are generally called SSID. Of course, this SSID has to be like with all computers that are sharing the same wireless router. For your personal protection, it is recommended that no matter what name your router manufacturer has set, you can modify it to something else. In order to locate a network name for your router, all you have to do is to consult the product documentation. Lastly, read the documentation to find out how to handle WEP security, how to turn on firewall features and how to put other options. A wireless network is great and simple to set up. To make a wireless network in Ontario & Canada , you only require a wireless for the main computer and a wireless card for each computer that you are hooking up to the network. With the newer computer, the wireless or network cards are already included with the computer. Therefore, you may easily log into any wireless network available. It is supported by only one contact point. It is very vital to remember this further on. It is suggested to use this type of access point only if you really need the features that only a wireless router may provide. You would like to have more than three or four computers around the house that will be linked to the internet. Network cabling 802.11a operates on 5 GHz band with a speed of 54 Mbps. The positioning rule is the same, as with the wireless routers – access points is required to be placed in a central location so that all receivers will be in the same line of sight. Plug in the power cord and if required the dial- up internet connection as well. Currently, cable the access points to your hub or switch. In this case, you will not be required to configure any firewalls at all, so you still have to set up a network name and enable the WEP function.
