SAMPLE LETTER FOR REQUESTING FUNDING Re: Request of funding to attend the Diabetes UK Annual Professional Conference (APC) 2009 – 11 to 13 March 2009, Glasgow Dear ------------, I am writing to you to request funding to attend the Diabetes UK Annual Professional Conference (APC) 2009, which will be held 11 to 13 March 2009 in Glasgow. The Diabetes UK Annual Professional Conference (APC) is the only event of its kind in the UK run exclusively for healthcare professionals and scientists working in the field of diabetes. It is one of the largest healthcare conferences in the UK (around 3,000) and provides delegates with an unmissable opportunity to: • explore a variety of different aspects of diabetes • share best practice • find out about the latest research • network with colleagues. The different tracks are arranged in an interdisciplinary manner to allow delegates to explore issues directly connected to their own area of work while also providing the opportunity to engage with other professionals from a wide range of disciplines. Delegates will come together for dynamic plenary sessions on key issues. The theme for the 2009 conference is ‘The changing face of diabetes’. It represents and highlights: • the change from the basic disease model of the 1930’s, when the British Diabetic Association was first formed, to a condition that is now understood to include social and bio-psychological elements as well as metabolic, vascular, endocrinological, genetic and immunological components. • the recent paradigm shift in the understanding and management of diabetes; diabetes has been transformed from a disease treated exclusively by healthcare professionals to the present integrated care system involving the wider community and patients themselves as care agents. • the exciting and innovative new developments in research, technology and clinical practice which continue to re-define the frontiers of diabetes; a range of these will be explored during the conference The specific sessions I am interested to attend are: • Name of the session – Speakers – Content of the session • Etc. • Etc.
