Texas STaR Chart History
The Texas Teacher STaR Chart has been developed around the four key areas of the Long-Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020 : Teaching and Learning; Educator Preparation and Development; Leadership, Administration and Instructional Support; and Infrastructure for Technology . The Texas Teacher STaR Chart is designed to help teachers, campuses, and districts determine their progress toward meeting the goals of the Long-Range Plan for Technology , as well as meeting the goals of their district.
The Texas Teacher STaR Chart can assist in the measurement of the impact of state and local efforts to improve student learning through the use of technology as specified in No Child Left Behind, Title II, Part D. It also can identify needs for on-going professional development and raise awareness of research-based instructional goals.
The Texas Teacher STaR Chart Will Help Teachers Answer Critical Questions:
What is my current educational technology profile in the areas of Teaching and Learning and Educator Preparation and Development?
What is my knowledge of online learning, technology resources, instructional support, and planning on my campus?
What evidence can be provided to demonstrate my progress in meeting the goals of the Long Range Plan for Technology and No Child
Left Behind, Title II, Part D ?
In what areas can I improve my level of technology integration to ensure the best possible teaching and learning for my students?
What are the technology standards required of all beginning teachers and recommended for all current Texas teachers?
State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC)
Standard I. All teachers use technology-related terms, concepts, data input strategies and ethical practices to make informed decisions about current technologies and their applications.
Standard II. All teachers identify task requirements, apply search strategies and use current technology to efficiently acquire, analyze, and evaluate a variety of electronic information.
Standard III. All teachers use task-appropriate tools to synthesize knowledge, create and modify solutions and evaluate results in a way that supports the work of individuals and groups in problem-solving situations.
Standard IV. All teachers communicate information in different formats and for diverse audiences.
Standard V. All teachers know how to plan, organize, deliver and evaluate instruction for all students that incorporates the effective use of current technology for teaching and integrating the Technology Applications Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) into the curriculum.

Summary Of Our STaR Chart Report
After looking at our STaR Chart summary our greatest strength is in Leadership, Administration and Instructional Support. I do agree with these results. Our campus principal is doing an excellent job acquiring technology for his staff so that our staff and students do not stay behind. He has been able to purchase brand new laptops for the staff, extendas for all core area classrooms, ceiling mounted projectors and smart boards for the mathematics department. Technology support is evident and resourceful at our campus. We also have a lot of technology and instructional support from several agencies for instance Gear Up, Gear Up 3, HSRP and TI.
Our greatest weakness was Educator Preparation and Development. I would also have to agree with these findings. While we have an excellent team of teachers that is experienced and do an excellent job; there are some that are afraid and at times reluctant to incorporate technology into their classroom. For the most part because they do not feel comfortable and feel they need extra training and professional development. Our principal has done an excellent job in bringing in professional development to our campus and sending staff members to trainings, some teachers just need a little more time to adjust. On a good note we do have several teachers that are very technology inclined and are leading the way for the rest of the staff and are always willing to lend a hand when needed.
