Wind energy

  1. 1. Wind Energy Anup Ghimire
  2. 2. Global Wind Energy Production • Consistent increase in global wind energy production capacity from 1995 to 2012. • The total capacity was 4800 MW in 1995 which increased to 47,662 MW in 2004 and 282,410 Megawatts in 2012.
  3. 3. Global Wind Energy Production • Consistent increase in global wind energy production capacity growth percentage. • The average growth was 28.57% and the highest growth was 64.3% in 2001.
  4. 4. Asia • Steady increase of the wind energy generation capacity in Asia until 2005 however total capacity rapidly increased from 2005 to 2012. • In 2005, Asian production of wind energy was 7.35 MW which increased to 99,942 MW in 2012.
  5. 5. …Asia • Asian countries included in the study are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, China, India, Iran, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Mongolia, Pakistan, Russia, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Turkey and Vietnam.
  6. 6. North America Wind energy production capacity of North America was 1721 MW. The capacity increased from 7263 MW in 2004 to 67970 MW in 2012.
  7. 7. …North America North American countries included in the data are Canada, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, Saint Kitts, and Nevis, USA.
  8. 8. South America • Continuous increase of wind power generation capacity in South America between 1997 and 2012. • Total capacity was 12 MW in 1997, which increased to 93 MW in 2005 and consequently 2984 MW in 2012.
  9. 9. …South America • Countries included in the data are Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
  10. 10. Oceania • Higher rate of increase in wind energy production capacity of Oceania between 2002 and 2012 can be inferred from the graph. • Total capacity was 8 MW in 1997 and 773 MW in 2005 which increased to 3255 MW in 2012.
  11. 11. …Oceania • Fiji, Austria, Indonesia, New Zealand, Philippines and Vanuatu were included in the study.
  12. 12. Europe • European countries included in the study includes Albania, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine and United Kingdom.
  13. 13. …Europe • Constant rate of increase in the wind energy production capacity. • In 1997, total capacity was 4620 MW which increased to 107,185 MW in 2012.
  14. 14. Africa • The countries included in the study are Algeria, Cape Verde, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gambia, Kenya, Libya, Mauritania, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Seychelles, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, and Zimbabwe.
  15. 15. …Africa • Steady rate of increase in the wind energy production capacity of Africa between 1997 and 2012. • Total capacity increased from 6 Mw in 1997 to 1076 MW in 2012.
