2. Easy as 1, 2, 3…
The process of having your hearing
tested is completed in 3 easy steps.
3. Step 1: Welcome and Case
History
After you arrive at the office:
• The front desk staff will hand you
some forms asking for personal,
medical, and insurance information.
• The hearing specialist will then
accompany you into a room.
• The hearing specialist will ask about
your hearing loss and what you want
to achieve from treatment.
4. Step 2: Testing
Testing will consist of:
• Otoscopy – the visual examination of the
outer ear, ear canal, and eardrum.
• Tympanometry – the measure of how the
eardrum and middle ear respond to
pressure changes. (small pressure changes
delivered by a small device inserted into the
ear)
• Audiometry – the measurement of your
ability to hear different sounds. The test is
administered in a sound proof room and
sounds are delivered through headphones.
5. Step 3: Reviewing Results and
Planning Treatment
Once the testing is complete, your hearing
specialist will review your results with you. You will
receive a copy of your audiogram that will look
similar to the picture to the right.
Once the specifics of your hearing loss are
determined, you will collaborate with your hearing
specialist to select the best treatment options for
your needs, preferences, and goals.
6. Hearing Aids
If you require hearing aids, your hearing specialist will work with you to
select the best model. Modern hearing aids are highly effective, discreet,
and affordable, equipped with amazing digital technology.
Once your hearing aids are selected, your hearing specialist will create a
custom mold and will professionally program the hearing aid to match
your unique hearing loss, similar to how a pair of prescription glasses are
tailored to your eyesight.
Last, your hearing specialist will provide all of the instructions you’ll need
to properly manage and care for your new hearing aids.
