  • 3. 5 WAYS TO IMPROVE OUR WATER USAGE • Americans now use 127 percent more water than we did in 1950 • About 95 percent of the water entering our homes goes down the drain. • Running the tap while brushing your teeth can waste 4 gallons of water. • Older toilets can use 3 gallons of clean water with every flush, while new toilets use as little as 1 gallon. • Watering grass and plants during peak hours. • Select the appropriate water level for the size of your load of laundry. Most washers now offer preset water levels for small, medium, and large loads. Use full loads whenever possible. • Every glass of water brought to your table in a restaurant requires another two glasses of water to wash and rinse the glass. Since nearly 70 million meals are served each day in US restaurants, we'd save more than 26 million gallons of water if only one person in four declined the complimentary glassful. Step 1 only use water as needed Step 2 Turn off faucets when not using water, use only during low peaks. Step 3 Try to replace toilet with more efficient ones. Step 4 Select Appropriate water levels for dishes and laundry. Step 5 Watch water levels. July 22, 2012 Footer text here3
  • 4. Water Outside the Home July 22, 2012 Footer text here4 •Mister systems: Connect them to thermostats or times and only use when needed. •Water grass or plants in early morning or late evening. •Use rain water when available.Turn off water timers during rain seasons. •Water saving nozzles on the hoses when using for cleaning. •Fix broken sprinklers •Over seed lawns in the fall. •Replace grass with stones for landscape. •Use plants that require less water to maintain for landscape.
  • 5. INSIDETHE HOUSE Keep shower time down, shorten the shower by 1-2 minutes per day. Use more efficient faucets. Only run full loads of laundry or dishes at a time. Turn off water when brushing your teeth. Replace toilet with less water usage per flush. Replace any leaking faucets or toilets.
  • 6. WATER IS A SOURCE OF SURVIVAL Can you live without it?
  • 7. What can we do? http://environment.nationalgeographic.com/environment/fres hwater/change-the-course/water-footprint-calculator/ • Know this:The average American lifestyle is kept afloat by about 2,000 gallons of H2O a day—twice the global average. The bright side: By pledging to cut your water footprint, you can help restore freshwater ecosystems. So far 66,473 people have used this tool, promising to save 13,412,982 gallons of water. • You can help restore freshwater ecosystems by pledging to cut your water footprint. For every pledge, Change the Course will restore 1,000 gallons back to the Colorado River. July 22, 2012 Footer text here8
  • 8. • CONCLUSION: • Without water we would not exist. Many people die each year from a lack of clean water. In the U.S. we are lucky to have the water treatment plants. However, we are very wasteful. Many are not aware that we can run out of drinkable water. We all must do our parts to ensure the future. Everything we learned about the environment is important. I believe the pollution of water and water waste is a hot topic. We will die without clean water to drink. July 22, 2012 Footer text here9
