The ‘Other Treaties’ L.O.: To investigate the content and purpose of the other European peace treaties Starter Write down the following words and definitions at the back of your books: SELF DETERMINATION: An idea where people of the same culture and language would live together in the same country. DISARMAMENT: The policy of getting rid of the army, navy and air force of a country, and their weapons. COLONIES: A country which is controlled by a more powerful nation, for example India was part of the British Empire during World War One. When you have finished writing these, start to read pages 92 and 93 in your textbook.
What were the ‘other’ peace treaties?
The Treaty of Versailles was not the only peace treaty to follow World War One.
There were several other treaties which dealt with the nations of Eastern Europe.
This was important because the Austrian and Turkish Empires had collapsed after World War One, and President Wilson wanted SELF DETERMINATION for people in Eastern Europe.
These were not negotiated by the ‘Big Three’, but by diplomats who represented them.
