  • Hi Lesley,

    Thank you for taking the time to look over my presentation.

    Slides 8 - 11 are all about engaging with the community, much of the set deals with taking an interest in the community to better understand them to provide content that is relevant.

    I suppose I made an assumption that readers would understand that to understand the community you must listen.

    When I present on this topic next I will make sure to emphasise the importance of listening to them.

  • I think you miss the most important stage out - LISTENING. If we don't know what people are talking about, how can we engage with them and take an interest in them. We need to understand what it is that people want and need, and try and provide that service. Social Media isn't about what you do or sell, its about the content you create

Start with your customers <ul><li>Building communities </li></ul><ul><li>Finding the right people </li></ul><ul><li>Social media allows you to concentrate your internet marketing activities on the right people </li></ul><ul><li>Start by inviting existing customers and friends to network with you on your social media channels </li></ul><ul><li>Through them you will begin to establish connections with people in their networks, and so on </li></ul>

Target the right people <ul><li>Know who you need to target </li></ul><ul><li>Improving your SMM success </li></ul><ul><li>Develop a profile that describes your ideal customer </li></ul><ul><li>What are their business needs? </li></ul><ul><li>What do they do away from work? </li></ul><ul><li>How can you make you / your business a better fit for them? </li></ul>

Making it work <ul><li>Update regularly </li></ul><ul><li>You must create new content to a regular and predictable schedule </li></ul><ul><li>Your community will learn that each Monday morning you post a tip of the week and each Friday you publish a new blog </li></ul><ul><li>If your content is good and timely and relevant they will come to expect it and keep watch for it, they will make time for it </li></ul><ul><li>Interact with your network </li></ul><ul><li>Make sure you watch for replies, comments, responses, questions </li></ul><ul><li>If someone takes the time to publically interact with your content you must respond </li></ul><ul><li>This will eventually get you testimonials for your website </li></ul><ul><li>Customer generated content is the only content on your website not subject to the new ASA rules </li></ul>
