• 1. Message for February 6, 2011Morning Service
On Hope and Comfort
• 2. 1 Thess 4:13-18
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
• 3. Introduction
There are two things that we need today: HOPE and COMFORT. Hope concerning the future and Comfort concerning our present state.
• 4. Hope based on Ignorance
Ignorance abounds in the midst of much learning
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
• 5. 2 Timothy 3:7
Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
• 6. There is sorrow in the absence of hope
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
• 7. Hope here is regarding the dead
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
• 8. But what if hope is based on ignorance?
Ignorance on Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection
For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

• 9. 1 Corinthians 15:1-4
Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand;
By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain.
For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:
• 10. Comfort based on the Word of God
Hope Breeds Comfort
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
• 11. Comfort regarding us who are alive
• 13. The Word of God contains the following informations…
The Lord Himself shall descend from Heaven
The dead in Christ shall rise first
Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up…
And so shall we ever be with the Lord
• 14. 1 Cor 15:51-55
Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
