  • I made this presentation for a telco client I was working with back in April 2007. It’s been sanitized of course, but the contents are the same.
Yup, you guessed it right - blank stares...
I’ve been working in or around telcos since 1997 and, yes, I still get blank stares. So I finally decided to just post my thoughts publicly.
I sometimes blog about stuff like this too (http://thegoodnet.blogspot.com).

    • Consumer communication devices continuously upgrade their connectivity, computing and multimedia capabilities
    • The capacity of network technologies for data-handling continues to grow rapidly
    • The pace of software advances to take advantage of this IP landscape is very rapid; the open-source initiative has increased the sources of good software and made them faster and more prolific
    Rene Ylanan
  • 4. The Telecoms Value Chain
    • Today’s telecoms environment has a large and growing range of new players and inter-networked data applications delivering the value now

    • The telecoms value chain is dis-integrating
    • There are many, many more links in the value chain now and telcos do not control a lot of them
      • Applications developers are central value-drivers, fueled by open-source software and commons licensing
      • Content owners are in a stronger position than before, with the ability to interact directly with content consumers via web applications
      • “Content owners” now includes almost all network users , as we interact more and more online through web-services thus generating huge amounts of content value
    Rene Ylanan
  • 6. New Role
    • In the emerging telecommunications market, telcos need to realize they have a new role to fulfill
    • that of “ key servant ” of the internet-based ecosystem
    • The high ground in the emerging telecommunications market will go to the telcos which embrace and live in this role
