Socialising Intelligence - The Urban Survival Project - Presentation Transcript

    1. Rizwan Tayabali = Management Consultant & Social Entrepreneur
    2. We’re going to consider a new angle on Social Intelligence
    3. The power of crowd intelligence.
    4. Socialising knowledge transfer & Crowd-sourcing help
    5. Back to Basics
    6. What exactly is Social Intelligence?
    7. Is there even one clear definition?
    8. 1920 E.L. Thorndike first coined it
    9. In 1987, Cantor & Kihlstrom redefined it
    10. Howard Gardner said it’s the interpersonal facet of multiple intelligences
    11. Daniel Goleman took the neuroscience approach Social Intelligence = Social Awareness + Social Facility
    12. They all essentially view social intelligence as personal
    13. the ability to get along well with others and to get them to cooperate with you
    14. But the world is changing
    15. Social intelligence is now also networked intelligence
    16. The Web 2.0 generation
    17. And platform intelligence
    18. The semantic web
    19. A whole new field called SID (social intelligence design) has even sprung up
    20. We’re more interconnected than we used to be
    21. So social intelligence can now be viewed as a collective phenomenon
    22. I know what you know, as long as I know you!
    23. Which gives us another perspective to explore
    24. An opportunity to change the world
    25. Why?
    26. Societal definition of intelligence = Academic
    27. This makes it a function of economics
    28. And since we have social economic differentials, we also have social intelligence differentials
    29. Balancing out these differentials is what I call socialising intelligence
    30. In other words...
    31. Facilitating knowledge transfer to create a collective social intelligence
    32. Using web technologies and SID to create a community platform for socialising knowledge transfer
    33. Crowd-sourcing help by enabling virtual volunteering
    34. Crowd-Sourcing = Many to one
    35. Virtual Volunteering = Doing stuff directly online
    36. Removing barriers to volunteering knowledge
    37. Socialising Intelligence!
    38. Thank You! Rizwan Tayabali rizwan.tayabali@gmail.com www.urbansurvivalproject.org Find me on Twitter, Del.ic.io.us & LinkedIn
