Advantages

Do not have to use computer for playback. It can be reviewed while driving, bilking and walking.
Greatly increases access to classes, lectures, and talks by making these available for download to people who cannot attend the session in person.
It is very valuable for students to use as a review or a study guide.
Disadvantages
Large file size which requires broadband connection and it makes is harder to download if the connection is slow.
Users must make sure that all files are MP3 format and not just for I pods.
Transcripts must be made of files to ensure accessibility. (Timely & Costly)
It is important for those who share podcasts lectures because it maybe copyrighted.
The ease of recording talks, lectures, concerts make it possible to record them without knowledge and permission of the person.
It may be cheap but it is very much time consuming.
Although it works with iTunes, its files may not share the same format for MP3 users.
