  • 1. Writing ExerciseCome up with a question, series of questions, or discussion topic that will get students writing. It should be related to the scholarly article.The more controversial or interesting the better in terms of generating student interest.Have the students write before you begin your presentatation.
  • 2. Title of Presentation(Come up with a catchy title that reflects the topics you are covering) Names of Group Presenters
  • 3. Basic Overview of Article• “Title”• Authors• Journal
  • 4. JournalOverview:• Who publishes it?• What is the focus of the journal?• What is the journal’s editorial bias/slant?
  • 5. Authors Dr. Lois Lane Tell us about the authors. Where do they work? What are their specialties? Accomplishments?Dr. Marge Simpson Biases?
  • 6. Context and Background Provide background information about the topic. For example, if the article is about a particular problem, outline the problem and its impact on society. Use images / Brief Text
  • 7. Summary of Article• Summarize the main points and finding of the article IN YOUR OWN WORDS. Use images / Brief Text
  • 8. Important Terms or People Mentioned• Explain complex terms to your audience;• If the article references the scholarship of important Economist, explain who they are. (If multiple scholars are references, concentrate on discussing only 1-3 of them.) Use images / Brief Text
  • 9. Main Points and FindingsUse images / Brief Text / This may take more than one slide
  • 10. Video Element• Insert a link to a Youtube or other video that is somehow relevant to your topic(s); show the class
  • 11. Sharing Your Views• Each presenter should share either a well- written or poorly-written passage from the article.• Each presenter should share his/her opinions of the article’s findings; the authors’ viewpoints.
  • 12. Class Discussion• Have the students share what they wrote before the presentation began.
