How have smartphones affected the education
On Education
Students spend more time on chat sites than listening in class therefore marks can substantially decrease.
Smartphone use has also negatively affected students reading and writing skills.
Students spreading false or true statements about other students or teachers can badly impact performances.
Students use smartphones to cheat during tests or examinations.
Negatives
Still Negatives
Social Engagement
Many people only know how to communicate on their smartphones and aren’t as comfortable in physical interaction.
People have many chat sites like mxit or BBM and spend more time chatting on those sites even while in the presence of friends or family.
People become secluded as they are constantly looking down on their phones instead of interacted in the physical world and then only meet people on a technological level and not on a physical and emotional level.
Negatives
Yep Negatives
Statistics On Smartphones
In 2008 alone 173.6 million smartphones where sold.
Text messaging is the main use of smartphones as in the U.S 67% of subscribers used text messaging.
In 2010 55.7 million U.S consumers owned smartphones and in August rose by 14%.
These statistics show how popular smartphones have become meaning more people become part of the social network. The amount of users means more smartphones being used in schools meaning more students losing concentration, cheating, rumours. The large amount of users that use text messaging may mean that many more people will lose their natural connection to people and become enthralled into their networks and so people find their connection to people being mainly a text.
Statistics
The Osterman Research conducted showed that 81% of senior managers said mobile messaging is extremely important.
Over 70% of IT employees agreed with the senoir managers feelings and nearly 65 percent of traveling salespeople reported an equal rating.
Conclusions
The smartphones do have a large impact on education as students overly use their smartphones not often for the right reasons such as cheating, chatting during lessons.
The networks have become a main communication medium where by user spend more time chatting through text messages than human interaction.
Smartphones have become a huge part of the workplace and is a huge part of the communication system in the workplace which can lead to conflict.
