Collecting Like Terms

 1. 1. Collecting Like Terms By Richard, Nolan, and Leo, the pirate.
 2. 2. Mr. Pingas, the shark has a problem. Kids, please help him!
 3. 3. Mr. Pingas wants to eat triangles for breakfast because he`s allergic to circles. Mr. Pingas wants to eat at Nolan’s Japanese Noodle restaurant But Mr. Pingas is allergic to circles and squares.
 4. 4.

Mr. Pingas bought a meal that consists 4 triangles, 2 squares, and 3 circles.

 5. 5.

Remember, Mr. Pingas is allergic to squares and circles, so he can only eat the triangles.

 6. 6.

Remember, Mr. Pingas is allergic to squares and circles, so he can only eat the triangles.

 7. 7. If Mr. Pingas eats the squares or the circles, chances are, Mr. Pingas won’t feel too well for the rest of the day. You cannot combine two different terms into one column or group because they are different types of objects. For example: 4x + 5y Let x represent apples, and y represent little Asian boys. You cannot combine the two into one column or group because they are different Types of objects. 
 8. 8.

For example in the expression: 2x + 5x, you can collect them because they both have the same variable.

2 x + 5 x Notice how they have the same variables! Instead of multiplying 2 with x, five with x, and then adding them together, you could Simply, add the coefficients 2 and 5 together!
 9. 9.

For much more complicated questions like: 1 + 4x + 7k + 6d + x + 4k What would you do? Notice how some of the variables are the same? You can combine them! They’re called Like Terms!

1 + 4 x + 7 k + 6d + x + 4 k After combining them, they should look like this: 1 + 5x + 11k + 6d But you’re not done yet!

 10. 10.

You still have to put them into the order of descending power ! 1 + 5x + 11k + 6d would then equal 5x + 11k + 6d + 1 A number without a variable goes at the end! A number with the highest degree goes at the front.

 11. 11.

Mr. Va China, a foreign shark, only eats fresh Asian boys. Mr. Va China spots a group of kids doing math, and decides to check if any of them are Asian.

 12. 12.

Mr. Va China spots 3 little Asian boys and a Caucasian. Mr. Va China decides to eat the 3 Asian boys OM NOM NOM NOM . OM NOM NOM NOM NOM . What luck, there’s a textbook stuck in my beard!


 13. 13. THAT’S HOW YOU COLLECT LIKE TERMS!
