    • Jean Piaget (1896 – 1980)
      • Piaget considered that coercion was the worst of the teaching methods. In the field of education example should play a more important role. Another important precept is the importance of the pupils’ active participation.
      • According to Piaget children learn by a process of trial and error, working actively and independently
      • Piaget provided with the help of psychology the theoretic and scientific basis for these new teaching methods, whereas other pedagogues of his times based themselves above all on experience and philosophical ideas.
      • Different factors which exert influence on the cognitive development
        • The process of maturation.
        • The capacity to act upon environment.
        • Social activity, the capacity to learn from others, the transmission of knowledge.
      • Two different ways of adapting yourself to your environment: assimilation and accommodation.
      • Sensorimotor stage (0-2 years)
      • Preoperational stage (2 till 7 years)
      • Concrete operational stage (7 till 11 years)
      • F ormal operational stage (11 till maturity)
