Background<br />Changes<br /> No budget for Invigilators (small budget for specialists)<br />Require 127 Invigilators to cover 1 week for HW & Uxbridge<br />Student : invigilator ratio = maximum 40 : 1<br />Locations <br />Events Hall, High Wycombe (14 sessions)<br />The Park Room, Uxbridge (6 sessions)<br />Various separate rooms in HW & Uxbridge (coordinated by AQD)<br />Types of assessments - exams, time constrained assessments (TCAs), multiple choice tests (MCQs), answer on the question paper, OSCEs<br />

Students with reasonable adjustments<br /> The university has a responsibility to students who have registered with the Disability Service to provide and make any reasonable adjustments deemed necessary<br />145 students for the January exam period registered with Disability Serviceso far!<br />Dyslexia, dyspraxia,<br />Physical and mobility conditions <br />Mental health <br />Reasonable adjustments encompasses:<br />Use of computer<br />Extra time<br />Coloured paper<br />Separate room – amanuensis, readers<br />

  6. 6. What can be taken into the exam room<br />Coats and bags are left in a designated area outside the room<br /> (main room only)<br />Valuables <br />Mobile phones – switched off <br />Drinks and sweets<br />

Invigilator announcements<br />Before entering the room:<br />Have ID card ready<br />Coats and bags not in exam room<br />Listen to the invigilator for where the students should sit<br />No talking<br />In the room: (crib sheet provided)<br />Mobiles switched off and put away under seat<br />ID card on edge of desk<br />Make sure the student is taking the right exam!<br />Instructions on timing, extra time, requests<br />Remain seated until papers are collected or invigilator says the student can go<br />

Before the exam<br />Times (arrive 30 mins before the start of the exam)<br />Papers will be provided by AQD<br />Room set up, preparation before and after<br />Multiple exams in the same room need to be aware of the variable length of exams<br />Seating plan and arrangements<br />Register, Gallery and ID checking – validity of Bucks ID or alternative photo card ID, work ID<br />NO ID – Letter sent to student<br />
  9. 9. During the exam<br />Students are allowed into the room up to 30 minutes after the start of the exam – if later student is sent to the Faculty registrar<br />Students can not leave in the first hour or last 15 minutes<br /><ul><li>Invigilate and be observant!

Announcements to be made</li></li></ul><li>Cheating<br />In real terms there are very few incidents of cheating however it does happen!<br />Examples:<br /> Unauthorised notes, hidden notes (in and outside of the room),talking, mobile phone, etc<br />What to do?<br />Confiscate material, warn student and record the incident on the report sheet and cheating inv. record<br />If talking, warn student and record the incident on the report sheet and cheating investigation record<br />Disruptive behaviour – contact Faculty and Security to remove the student and record the incident<br />

At the end of the exam<br /> Announce 15 and 5 minutes to go – beware of different start and finish times<br /> When exam time finishes students must remain seated and silent until papers are collected<br />Script collection<br />Compiled in numeric order of Student ID at end of exams (marks collection form)<br />Complete any paperwork (cheating/report forms)<br />Return papers to designated member of staff<br />Report any incidents to AQD<br />

Health & Safety<br />Know the fire procedures and where exits and meeting points are.<br />Drills are never planned for central exams weeks<br />Know what to do if power fails – same as for a fire<br />Make a judgement call on what action take<br />If evacuated keep students together, no talking.<br />Don’t move or lift equipment – always get porters<br />First Aid<br />

Do’s and don’ts<br />Do<br />Do find your inner head teacher – challenge politely and firmly<br />Walk around – be visible!<br />Use common sense and discretion<br />Assume the majority are well behaved and honest<br />Call for help and clarification at earliest opportunity<br />Be vigilant!<br />Don’t<br />Promise what you can’t give!<br />Interpret or assist in answering an exam question – if there is a query the lead academic for that exam should clarify<br />Let students leave unnoticed, without handing in script and paper (or as instructions dictate)<br />
