  • “The growing  challenge for  professionals is  that their career  growth becomes  more and more  their own  responsibility.”      ~ J. Todd Rhoad These results are  provided to help  you progress your  own career. Here’s to your  success! Every year we ask professionals to identify their top challenges in growing their career
  • Is it  just  you? Do you feel career barriers are holding  you back from achieving your goals? YES NO 0% 20% 40% 60% 80% 100% If you think building a successful career is difficult,  you are not alone!  Over 81% of respondents are  hitting barriers.
  • Where do they  come  from? 0% 20% 40% 60% 80%  100% Are most of your barriers  INTERNAL or EXTERNAL? Internal External Internal  barriers are  emotional  and mental  issues that  stop you from  doing a  particular  thing.  External  barriers are  obstacles that  exist outside  of us.  Over 62% of  respondents feel their  environment is not helping them  achieve their goals.
  • 0% 20% 40% 60% 80% 100% My current career track is in conflict with my values I can't define my goals I don't have a clear vision of what I want I lack the passion to seek my path I don't have the patience to build my expertise I don't have enough of the Likability factor I don't have enough confidence in myself I'm angry with the system Other What are your internal barriers? 37% of respondents don’t  know where to go with their career
  • What are your external barriers? What’s  holding  you  back? 0% 20% 40% 60% 80% 100% Don't have enough education Don't have a professional network My company doesn't support  career growth Can't chase my dream because  I need the paycheck Don't have enough experience Don't have the right experience Can’t find a job in my desired field Other 42% of respondents feel their company doesn’t  support career growth or they don’t have the right  experience.  A newly released Gallup  report shows that 70% of  Americans polled either  hate their job or are  "disengaged" from their  work. ~ NY Daily News
  • What  do you  do? Talking through issues with family or friends Reading books on my specific issues Read Blogs from experts on my issues Work with consultants Talk with company HR department Read popular Websites on career issues Other 0% 20% 40% 60% 80% 100% What methods do you use to  overcome your barriers? Only 50% of respondents are actually talking about their barriers.  Most professionals just choose to read about how to get around them.
  • What do WE think? What’s happening now What this means for you Companies are flatter No organizational structure If companies can’t define the opportunity, colleges can’t  prepare you for it Fewer Opportunities to move up You have to figure out where the  opportunities are You’ll have to figure out what skills are needed “We’ve never seen the market so unprepared for its future leaders.  More than ever, graduates have to develop their own vision and plan for implementing it,  and the resources previously sought for career support (i.e. organizations and  academia) can no longer provide any guidance.  If there was ever a time for you to create your own course, today is that time.”
