The Problem: Floors Gone Bad

The effects of vapor emissions and high moisture condition
in concrete leads to higher pH that causes:
   Adhesive breakdown, de-bonding and blistering

Adding hundreds of millions of dollars in repair costs

Page 2
Impacts on Project and Owner

 Costly flooring damage, repairs, replacements and
     moisture mitigation treatments
 Construction delays and cost overruns
 Concrete moisture levels not meeting flooring
     manufacturer's warranty standards
 Mold/mildew damage and air quality concerns
 Liabilities associated with flooring failures

Bottom Line: Each option attempts to seal the concrete but none get rid of
the problem within the concrete. None addresses RH.

Aridus® Concrete: An Inside Look

Conventional Concrete: Dries slowly from the top down

Drying to this depth could take years

Aridus® Rapid Drying Concrete: Dries throughout the depth

Drying throughout the depth will take
                                                  roughly 45 days

The Aridus® Rapid Drying Concrete is the result of more than 6 years of development, laboratory testing and field
verification by U.S. Concrete’s National R&D Lab, USC Technologies

  • 2. The Problem: Floors Gone Bad The effects of vapor emissions and high moisture condition in concrete leads to higher pH that causes: Adhesive breakdown, de-bonding and blistering Adding hundreds of millions of dollars in repair costs Page 2
  • 3. Impacts on Project and Owner  Costly flooring damage, repairs, replacements and moisture mitigation treatments  Construction delays and cost overruns  Concrete moisture levels not meeting flooring manufacturer's warranty standards  Mold/mildew damage and air quality concerns  Liabilities associated with flooring failures Page 3
  • 4. Contractors Face These Risks When Field Tests Fail or Post-installation Moisture Erupts Liability Issues Environmental Hazards Cost Overruns Damaged Unplanned Reputation Delays Page 4
  • 5. But I thought solutions existed to solve high moisture levels… Page 5
  • 6. Current Options to a “Dry Floor” Reactive Silicates Integral Admixtures Hybrid Epoxy  Ex: Creteseal, Concure  Ex: Barrier1, Xypex, Moxie  Ex: Koster, Ardex  What: Surface reaction  What: Pore blockers  What: Epoxy coating  Spray on treatment designed  Integral admixture put into  Multi-component system that to penetrate concrete surface concrete at plant often involves a primer and a & react chemically with liquid applied epoxy coating concrete  Goal: React to block pores of concrete internally  Goal: Reduce MVER and act  Goal: Reduce Moisture Vapor as isolation barrier to alkaline Emissions Rate (MVER) and salts, within concrete from bind up soluble alkali results reaching adhesive in high pH levels Reality: Reality: Reality:  Only effective when properly  Moisture vapor will eventually  Effective at stopping liquid  installed, but…when properly Only effective come through water but not moisture vapor installed, but…  Very costly  Can not be used with high SCMs  Can not be used with high  Very costly SCMs Bottom Line: Each option attempts to seal the concrete but none get rid of the problem within the concrete. None addresses RH. Page 6

Your Choices Aridus® Concrete 201 Use a 201 2 3  A scientifically product that engineered rapid attempts to Wait for concrete seal the to dry... drying concrete that moisture OR consumes excess Months... Choose water Years…  Reaches moisture levels required by flooring manufacturers and reduces scheduling delays Page 7
  • 8. Aridus® Concrete: An Inside Look Conventional Concrete: Dries slowly from the top down Drying to this depth could take years Aridus® Rapid Drying Concrete: Dries throughout the depth Drying throughout the depth will take roughly 45 days The Aridus® Rapid Drying Concrete is the result of more than 6 years of development, laboratory testing and field verification by U.S. Concrete’s National R&D Lab, USC Technologies Page 8
  • 9. The Aridus® Advantage  It’s Concrete • Engineered mix guaranteed to quickly consume moisture 1 Eliminates moisture issues • Safe for flooring in as little as 28 days • No delays due to extended drying time • No need for moisture mitigation system. Result: no time associated with: Eliminates costly and time • Applying multiple surface coatings 2 consuming moisture mitigation • Curing a surface MMS systems (MMS) or extended • Closing down work area to apply MMS drying time • Surface prep sandblasting • Grinding edges due to curling • Post installation corrections Eliminates moisture related 3 • No mold/mildew or air quality issues environmental hazards • Quicker drying • High, early strength development offers potential schedule savings => accelerated construction schedule 4 Superior performance over conventional concrete • Superior compressive strength • Improved drying shrinkage properties • Very low permeability • Significantly reduced curling • Moisture is gone when its time to install floor 5 Your “Insurance Policy” • Ten year warranty is available • Six years of development, laboratory testing and field verification by U.S. Concrete, Central’s parent company Page 9
