• 2. Abram was a nomad. He had a wife named Sarai. They grew up in the desert near the city of Ur. Then they move with Abram’s father to Haran.
.
• 3. At Haran Abram and Sarai had large flocks of sheep and many possessions. But they had no children.
• 4. One day the Lord said to Abram: “Leave the land of your ancestors and your father’s house. Go to a land that I will show you . I will give you many descendants .I will bless you. Through you I will bless all nations.”
• 5. Abram set out with his wife and all his possessions. He was 75 yrs. Old when he left Haran and set out for the land of Canaan. When Abram and Sarai came to Canaan they settled at Shechem. The Lord said to Abram, “ I will give this land to your descendants.”Abram built an altar there for the Lord.
• 6. Sometime later the Lord spoke to Abram. “Look up at the sky and count the stars if you can. That is how many descendants you will have.”Even though Sarai was too old to have children , Abram put his faith in the Lord.
• 7. When Abram was very old man the Lord spoke to him again. “I am God the Almighty. Walk in my presence and always to do what’s right. I will make my covenant with you.”
• 8. Abram bowed to the ground. The lord continued to speak to him. “This is my covenant with you: I promise that you will become the ancestor of many nations. Your name will no longer be Abram, but Abraham, the father of many nations. I will keep my covenant with you and your descendants as an everlasting covenant. I will be your God and theirs. You and your descendants must keep my covenant throughout all ages.”
• 9. The Lord had more to promise.”Do not call your wife Sarai any longer. Her name shall be Sarah. I will bless her. I will give you a son by her. You shall call him Isaac. I will keep my covenant with him. I will be his God and the God of his descendants after him.”Abraham trusted God’s word. Sarah became pregnant and bore a son. Abraham named him Isaac. Sarah said, “God has given me joy and laughter. Everyone who hears about it will laugh with me.”
