  • 2. BACKGROUNDWe are the rain forests of the ocean
  • 3. Supportsthousands ofspecies in tropicaland sub-tropicalwaters
  • 4. Reefs providehome and shelter to over 25% offish in the ocean.
  • 5. Coral reefs alsoprovide economicservices such as jobs, food, and tourism
  • 6. THE PROBLEM Climate change causes coral bleaching which destroys coral reefs
  • 7. Reefs take hundreds of years to recover from the effects of coral bleaching
  • 8. SOLUTION NOAA, EPA, and the state of Florida have joined together to create the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary
  • 9. Reefs will survive longer when theyare considered part of a larger system
