  • “mind of the Holy Spirit” – that means that whatever action is to be taken or suggested is going to come from a perspective of how God would approach the situation.

“given knowledge” – a person operating with the gift of wisdom isn’t going to make up facts but is going to work with what is presented before them.

“best be applied” – again, the person with wisdom has the ability to take existing knowledge and apply it in extraordinary and Godly ways.
  • What made Solomon’s judgment between the two women wise?

Note that the wisdom given to Solomon was to “administer” (apply) justice.

1 Kings 4:29, “God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore.”

  • The early church needed a group of men who would make wise decisions with regards to the various problems that arose with the daily administrations.

Acts 6:3–5, 3Brothers, choose seven men from among you who are known to be full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will turn this responsibility over to them 4and will give our attention to prayer and the ministry of the word.” 5This proposal pleased the whole group. They chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit; also Philip, Procorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas from Antioch, a convert to Judaism.

Acts 6:8–10, 8Now Stephen, a man full of God’s grace and power, did great wonders and miraculous signs among the people. 9Opposition arose, however, from members of the Synagogue of the Freedmen (as it was called)—Jews of Cyrene and Alexandria as well as the provinces of Cilicia and Asia. These men began to argue with Stephen, 10but they could not stand up against his wisdom or the Spirit by whom he spoke.
  • According to v.4, what did Paul not use in his preaching? What was Paul interested in demonstrating in his preaching & why (v. 5)?

    v. 6, 8, 12 – Emphasis on the wisdom not coming from the world but from God. Spiritual gifts come through the Holy Spirit’s power at work within the believer.
  • 2 Corinthians 11:6,6 I may not be a trained speaker, but I do have knowledge. We have made this perfectly clear to you in every way.

Colossians 2:2–3,2 My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

This gift combined with mission work might enable one to be a good Bible translator.
