The Spiritual Gift Of Prophet The Spiritual Gift Of Prophet Presentation Transcript

  • The spiritual gift of prophet/prophecy
    Spiritual gift series
    By DJ Sutton III
    PART THREE
  • Opening Statement
Are you called to be a prophet? This is the main question I want you to consider as we analyze what the spiritual gift of prophecy is. Just like part 2 of this series I want you to take notes, so that when we started looking to see how to determine our spiritual gifts you have something to refer back to.
Let us open up with a prayer.
  • Opening Prayer
    God we pray that your
holy spirit will fill us and
help us to learn about the
    spiritual gift of prophecy.
    As we continue this journey
shed some light on our lives,
so we can find the spiritual
    gifts you have given us.
    Amen.

  • “ I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. And of thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken?
  • When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.” (Deuteronomy 18:18-22, KJV)
  • “ Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the portion of faith; Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.” (Romans 12:6-8, KJV)
  • “ But the manifestation of the Spir’it is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spir’it the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spir’it; To another faith by the same Spir’it; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spir’it; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spir’it, dividing to every man severally as he will.” (1 Corinthians 12:7-11, KJV)
  • “ And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Are all workers of miracles? Have all the gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.” (1 Corinthians 12:28-31, KJV)
  • “ Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. For he that speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. But he that prophesiethspeaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesiethedifieth the church. I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.” (1 Corinthians 14:1-5, KJV)
  • “ But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judge of all: And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.” ( 1 Corinthians 14:24-25, KJV)
  • “ If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted. And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets. For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.” ( 1 Corinthians 14:30-33, KJV)
  • “ If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. But if any man be ignorant. Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues. Let all things be done decently and in order.” ( 1 Corinthians 14: 37-40, KJV)
  • “ And he gave some, apostles; and some prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ.” (Ephesians 4:11-13, KJV)
  • The Lesson
From these readings it give us clear guidelines to the responsibilities of those who can prophesy.
According to Life Application Bible Commentary for Romans:
“Prophesying, according to the New Testament, is not always predicting the future. Often it means effectively communicating God’s message ( 1 Corinthians 14: 1-3).”
Which brings us to what the life application bible commentary for 1st and 2nd Corinthians says:
“ “Prophesy” does not refer to predicting the future; it can also mean giving a message received by God to the community of believers.”
  • Throughout the other text the same meaning is there with just a few extra information of how to use those abilities the right way.
On the next slide I have provided the People with this gift list to help identify this spiritual gift.
While viewing this list I want you to write down your own experiences or feelings that fit in each section. If you cant think of anything just leave that categories alone and move onto the next one.
  • People with this gift:
    - expose sin or deception in others for the purpose of reconciliation - speak a timely word from God causing conviction, repentance, and edification - see truth that others often fail to see and challenge them to respond - warn of God's immediate or future judgment if there is no repentance - understand God's heart and mind through experiences He takes them through.

  • Closing Prayer
    Lord we just want to
    thank you for this
    message and the
    blessings you have
    given us.
    Amen.
