  • Introduction to Google Glass • Google Glass is a wearable computer with an optical head-mounted display (OHMD) that is being developed by Google in the Project Glass research and development project • The intended purpose of Google Glass would be hands free displaying of information • Glass is being developed by Google X • It can communicate with the Internet via natural language voice commands • Powered by Android OS Page 2
  • How It Works Page 3
  • Technology Used • • • • • • • Wearable Computing Smart Clothing Augmented Reality Eye Tap Technology Ambient Intelligence 4G Technology Android Technology Page 4
  • • Wearable Computing • Worn by the bearer under , with or on top of clothing Developed for general or special purpose information technologies and media development Page 5
  • • Smart Clothing • In this technology new fabric is used having the capability of signaltransfer • Augmented Reality • Augmented reality (AR) is cutting-edge technology that allows for a digitally enhanced view of the real world • Live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented (or supplemented) by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data Page 6
  • • Eye Tap Technology • An Eye Tap is a device that is worn in front of the eye that acts as a camera to record the scene available to the eye as well as a display to superimpose a computer-generated imagery on the original scene available to the eye Page 7
  • • Ambient Intelligence • Ambient intelligence (AmI) refers to electronic environments that are sensitive and responsive to the presence of people • In ambient intelligence world, devices work in concert to support people in carrying out their everyday life activities, tasks and rituals in an easy, natural way using information and intelligence that is hidden in the network connecting these devices Page 8
  • • 4G Technology • 4G is the fourth generation of mobile phone mobile communication technology standards • It can speed up to 100 mbps for high mobility communication & 1 Gbit/s for low mobility communication Page 9
  • • Android Technology • Android is a Linux-based operating system designed primarily for touch screen mobile devices such as Smartphone's and tablet computers Page 10
  • Features of Google Glass • Record videos, take pictures • Just say the word and Google Glass will take a picture or record a video – you will never have to touch the hardware. The photos and videos will be stored on the 16GB flash memory of the device, and can also be shared on social networking websites or emailed. • Show messages • Google Glass will show you text messages as well as emails you receive and allow you to reply to them via voice commands. Page 11
  • • Find information • You simply need to ask a question and the device will pull the answer from the internet. For example, you can ask when Taj Mahal was built or to give you a few photographs of the monument and the device will provide appropriate replies on the small screen in front of your eye. • Show maps • The widely used Google Maps are integrated into Glass, so that users will be able to chart the course of their journey or look up locations or establishments via voice commands. Page 12
  • • Integrates Google Now • Google Now, the digital voice assistant from the search giant, has been integrated in this device. It will keep track of your daily habits, such as when you leave for office or the route you take. It will give you alternate routes if there is traffic on the way or give you weather updates periodically, among various other functions. • Translate • This is a neat feature that may come in handy when you travel abroad. You simply need to ask Google Glass to translate a phrase or sentence from one language to another and it will speak that out. Page 13
  • • Live video sharing • Google Glass can show the world what you are seeing – live! If you are attending a family function, your child’s school play or a concert, you can share the feed with your friends and family in real-time and make them a part of the experience Page 14
  • Google Glass update • The update offers developers access to the sensors in Glass for use in motion tracking and development. • Developers will also be able to create their own voice commands through Glassware, giving the user the ability to launch the app • Google Glass gets transit directions via the new XE10 update • Support for Google Play Music in the & set of earbud headphones will be available next month for $85 in XE11 upgrade • Other additional features, include the ability to tap on a card to visit links sent to you in tweets, texts, emails and other messages& the profile picture can be seen while sending messages Page 15
  • Videos Page 16
  • Advantages • Glass is sleek, light and easily wearable and you won’t require keeping it on and off your pockets, like mobile phones. • No Bluetooth or camera needed when Glass is on, it’ll do all for you. • Glass will provide you detailed information and satisfactory results on your queries. • Make phone calls, sms, emails though Google Glass, no smartphone required. • Keep your calendar events, information, contacts updated on Glass. • Easier navigation and maps will be provided through Glass. • Glass will make you look hi-tech and updated on technology and create an impressive impact on people. Page 17
  • Disadvantages • Glass might give you a ‘nerdy’ look that might create clumsiness among people. • No indication while clicking pictures (like pointing the camera) which almost sounds like a hidden camera trying to capture a non-ready subject. • Chances are there to drop yourself down in the road while reading a text or email since you can’t get your eyes off it. • Competition is on pace. The future might bring a contact lens version of Glass after which Google Glass is supposed to sink Page 18
  • Conclusion • Wearable computing is a futuristic technology therefore its here to stay • Google glass is the best example of it and the future is in it • It is fashionable accessory & gadget with useful technology. • It could totally change the use of various platforms to share info or data • Eg instant click and share, video recording ,use of AR for directions tagging etc Page 19
