ECONOMY ANALYSIS
The Nifty extended its rally for the second straight session on Monday and
closed near 5,850 as institutional investors continued with dollar inflows
on hopes of a pick-up in economic activity, with a possible interest rate cut
next month. Positive cues from European peers also provided support to
the benchmarks.
The 50-share index ended at 5,841.75, up 58.65 points or 1.01 per cent. It
touched a high of 5,844.85 and a low of 5,789.80 in trade today.
Among the sectoral indices, the S&P BSE Capital Goods Index was up
3.55 per cent, the S&P BSE Realty Index was 3.26 per cent higher, the
S&P BSE Bankex was up 2.89 per cent and the S&P BSE Metal Index
gained 2.24 per cent. The S&P BSE IT Index was down 2.32 per cent.
Reliance Infrastructure (5.15 per cent), Coal India (4.59 per cent),
Larsen & Toubro (4.24 per cent), HDFC Bank BSE 3.85 % (4.12 per
cent) and IndusInd Bank BSE 3.51 % (3.64 per cent) were among the top
Nifty gainers.
