  • 1. World Lighting Fixtures to 2016Report Details:Published:October 2012No. of Pages: 513Price: Single User License – US$6300This study analyzes the world lighting fixture industry. It presents historical demand data for 2001,2006 and 2011, and forecasts for 2016 and 2021 by product (indoor, outdoor, vehicular, portable, parts and accessories), market (construction, vehicles and machinery, consumer and commercial),world region and major country. The study also considers market environment factors, detailsindustry structure, evaluates company market share and profiles industry competitors.Global demand to rise 6.9% annually through 2016Global demand for lighting fixtures is projected to climb 6.9 percent annually through 2016 to $153billion. Product sales will be driven primarily by a strong global rebound in motor vehicle outputand an acceleration in building construction activity. Efforts to conserve energy and convert tomore efficient light source technologies will also boost gains, particularly as sales of incandescentand other less efficient lamps are being phased out through much of the world. Increased use ofthese higher-end fixtures will also contribute to gains in value terms. In the developing world, ongoing efforts to modernize the building stock, coupled with increasing urbanization and risingincomes will further aid advances.China, US to post aboveaverage gains in demandThrough 2016, China alone will account for 36 percent of all additional demand, retaining itsposition as the largest lighting fixture market. The US, the second largest market, will also postabove-average gains, itself accounting for 18 percent of additional global sales, as the countryrebounds from a reduced 2011 base. However, sales gains are expected to be the fastest in India,a developing market for lighting fixtures. Above-average growth is also forecast in lower-volumemarkets such as Argentina, Brazil, Indonesia, Russia, South Africa, and Vietnam.Although increases will generally not be as robust, lighting fixture demand in established lightingfixture markets such as Western Europe and Japan will improve from reduced 2011 bases. Therate of growth through 2016 will be attributable in large part to a strong upturn in automotiveindustry production after a period of decline. Sales of lighting fixtures in developed areas will alsobe spurred by improving economic activity, leading to a pickup in consumer spending andrecoveries in construction activity.Nonportable indoor fixtures to record fastest growthNonportable indoor lighting fixtures will record the fastest gains of any major product segmentthrough 2016, fueled by a recovery in residential construction spending and an acceleration innonresidential building activity. Vehicular fixtures will expand at the next fastest rate, stimulated by
  • 2. increases in global motor vehicle production, including a recovery in key markets such as the US,Japan, and Western Europe, where vehicle output had declined sharply into 2011. Demand forportable lighting fixtures will be more moderate, partly because many newer light technologies aredesigned to fit most legacy portable fixtures.Homes to pace dominant construction marketLighting fixture demand can be segmented into three major markets: construction, vehicles andmachinery, and consumer and commercial goods. The construction market -- which includeshardwired fixtures used as part of new construction and improvement and repair projects, as wellas the separately sold parts and accessories used in conjunction with these fixtures -- is thelargest on a worldwide basis, accounting for 57 percent of global sales in 2011. Gains in thismarket will be led by the residential building segment, which is expected to achieve a recoverythrough 2016. Sales gains in the vehicles and machinery market will nearly match those of theconstruction market over the forecast period as vehicle production rates improve.COMPANY PROFILESProfiles 39 global competitors such as Acuity Brands, Cooper Industries,HELLA, Koito Group,Panasonic, Royal Philips Electronics, Siemens, and ValeoAdditional InformationThis study analyzes the world market for electric lighting fixtures, also known as luminaires.Products covered include nonportable fixtures (indoor, outdoor, and vehicular) that are wiredpermanently in place and also sometimes referred to as hardwired fixtures, portable fixtures (e.g.,fixtures that are plugged into an ordinary wall socket and thus can generally be easily moved andconsumer lighting products such as flashlights), and parts and accessories (e.g., aftermarketballasts; separately sold fittings, globes, and reflectors) for lighting fixtures. The major lightingfixture markets are construction (residential buildings, nonresidential buildings, and nonbuildingapplications), vehicles and machinery (motor vehicles, off-highway vehicles, and nonautomotivetransportation equipment), and consumer and commercial goods (table lamps, desk lamps, floorlamps, flashlights, and fixtures that are built into furniture or appliances). The study does not cover lamps (light bulbs or light-emitting diode [LED] light engines); sealedbeam automotive headlamps; non-electric lighting sources; wiring devices; dimming controls andrelated devices; or electric power generating, transmission, and distribution equipment. However,in cases where lighting fixtures are manufactured with a nonreplaceable LED light engine, the costof the light source is included.Historical data (2001, 2006, and 2011) and forecasts to 2016 and 2021 are provided on a country-by-country basis for lighting fixture demand (by product type and market), net exports andshipments, valued in millions of current US dollars, including inflation. The term “demand” actuallyrefers to “apparent consumption” and is defined as shipments (also referred to as “output,”“production,” or “supply”) from a nation’s indigenous lighting fixture manufacturing facilities plusimports minus exports. “Demand” is used interchangeably with the terms “market,” “sales,” and“consumption.”In addition, major manufacturers of lighting fixtures are identified and profiled, and the keycompetitive variables are discussed. The entire report is framed within the global lighting fixtureindustry’s economic, technological and market environments. World lighting fixture market share
  • 3. data by company presented in the “Industry Structure” section are estimated based onconsultation with multiple sources. Tabular details may not always add to totals due to rounding.Data on global lighting fixture supply and demand are derived from differing sources anddeveloped from statistical relationships. As a result, variations are commonplace in this type ofinternational reporting, and statistics presented in this study are historically consistent but maydiffer from other sources. Variances may occur because of definitional differences, undistributedexports, inventory accumulation, and goods-in-transit. To reduce the impact of such discrepancies, total world lighting fixture imports and exports have been assumed to balance in any given year.Get your copy of this report @http://www.reportsnreports.com/reports/195559-world-lighting-fixtures-to-2016.htmlMajor points covered in Table of Contents of this report includeTABLE OF CONTENTSINTRODUCTION xiiiI.
