    • Floor Coverings Industry Trends And End-use MarketsReport Details:Published:July 2012No. of Pages: 220Price: Single User License – US$3495SUMMARY OF MAJOR FINDINGSThe U.S. floor coverings industry recovery is beginning to solidify as sales benefit from a surge inhousing starts, strengthening existing home sales, and an increase in nonresidential buildingconstruction activity. Industry profit margins are also benefiting from moderating material costpressures and a reduction in domestic industry production capacity. The recovery, however, ismixed by industry sector. Sales increases are relatively strong for ceramic tile, resilient flooring, wood flooring, area rugs, and carpet tile. Meanwhile, sales of wall-to-wall carpet continue todecline. Growth in this industry also remains below previous recovery periods. Industry growth isbeing held down by cautious consumers due to relatively weak personal income gains, highunemployment rates, and reduced home prices that keep a high rate of homeowners under water, since the price of the home is below the amount owed. As a result, dollar industry sales areforecast to increase at a 3.5% compound annual rate through 2017. This compares to a 5.0%annual industry growth rate experienced over the 1995 to 2005 period.FLOORING SECTOR TRENDSCatalina Research uncovered these findings in our in-depth 220-page report on U.S. floorcoverings industry trends and an analysis of end-use markets. U.S. shipments, exports, imports, and price trends are evaluated for carpet and area rugs, wood flooring, ceramic tile, vinyl sheetand floor tile, other resilient flooring, laminate flooring, and stone flooring. Data is in dollars andsquare feet. Import sales are tracked by major country of origin, which uncover the inroads madeby Chinese manufacturers. U.S. export shipments are analyzed by major country of destination.World market trends are evaluated as well.PROFIT MARGINS AND THE COMPETITIVE ENVIRONMENTIn addition, Catalina Research investigated the cost structure and profit margins of U.S. floorcoverings plants. Data trends are compiled for material, labor, and capital inputs. As part of thisanalysis, Catalina Research profiled 15 leading U.S. manufacturers, compiled company sales andprofit margins, and calculated industry market shares. Market shares were also calculated for thesoft and hard surface flooring sectors. Company profiles cover product lines, manufacturing anddistribution, capital investments, acquisitions, and new products.END-USE MARKET ANALYSISCatalina investigated this industry’s end-use markets in three separate sections: ResidentialReplacement Sales, Builder and Manufactured Home Producer Purchases, and Commercial and
    • Transportation Equipment Markets. Each section evaluates end-use market sales trends, purchases by flooring type, share of industry total sales, and floor coverings share of each end-use market. For example, Catalina examines flooring material’s share of total builder spending. For the residential replacement market, Catalina Research tracks the number of replacement jobsfor hard surfaces and wall-to-wall carpet, as well as for movers and non-movers. This data wasused to estimate the spending and square footage for each type of job. Existing home sales, housing characteristics, and household income and demographics are analyzed to evaluate thedrivers of residential replacement demand. A similar analysis was conducted for the builder andmanufactured home producer market. In this section, Catalina analyzed new home completions, housing starts and permits to uncover opportunities in this market. For commercial markets,Catalina tracked flooring purchases for new construction and remodeling projects. Constructionspending by type of building and region was analyzed as part of this process. Catalina alsosegmented the commercial soft surface market into wall-to-wall carpet and carpet tile sales.Get your copy of this report @http://www.reportsnreports.com/reports/199938-floor-coverings-industry-trends-and-end-use-markets.htmlMajor points covered in Table of Contents of this report includeTABLE OF CONTENTSSECTION 1 U.S. FLOOR COVERINGS INDUSTRY TRENDS AND END-USE MARKETANALYSISExecutive SummaryMarket Size And GrowthMarket Product MixEnd-Use Market TrendsExport-Import TrendsCompetitive EnvironmentIndustry Profit MarginsIndustry OutlookTable 1-1 Value Of U.S. Floor Coverings Sales, 1987-2017 (dollars)Figure 1-1 Value Of U.S. Floor Coverings Sales, 2007-2017 (dollars)Table 1-2 Quantity U.S. Floor Coverings Sales And Average Value Per Square Foot Supplied,1987-2017 (square feet)Figure 1-2 Quantity U.S. Floor Coverings Sales, 2007-2017 (square eet)Table 1-3 Value Of U.S. Floor Coverings Sales By Product Sector, 1987-2011 (dollars): CarpetAnd Area Rugs, Wood Flooring, Ceramic Tile, Vinyl Sheet And Floor Tile, Other Resilient Flooring,Laminate Flooring, And Stone FlooringTable 1-4 U.S. Square Feet Floor Coverings Sales By Product Sector, 1987-2011 (square feet):Carpet And Area Rugs, Wood Flooring, Ceramic Tile, Vinyl Sheet And Floor Tile, Other ResilientFlooring, Laminate Flooring, And Stone FlooringFigure 1-3 Quantity U.S. Floor Coverings Sales By Product Sector, 2011 (square feet) : CarpetAnd Area Rugs, Wood Flooring, Ceramic Tile, Vinyl Sheet And Floor Tile, Other Resilient Flooring,
