Acknowledgements I would like to thank Margaret Rodrigues Sr. Manager Human Resources at Directi for allowing me to carry out the much necessary survey and employee interaction and helping me to with necessary information. Along with that, my former manger Mr. Anish Tripathi, Head of User-Experience Design Group, Media.net (Directi) for support and encouragement.   4. 4. Abstract Objective: Leave is granted to employees with the good intention of providing rest, recuperation of health and for fulfilling social obligations. This provides for a healthy and efficient staff for the company. This project has been undertaken to focus on factors for satisfaction, dissatisfaction and impact of leave policies amongst employees of Directi Pvt.ltd. Actual Study: Based on a questionnaire was designed and a sample set of 15 employees were selected to be surveyed based on this questionnaire. A survey web page is mailed to employees from different departments and based on their response data is generated. Findings: The results from the questionnaire were analyzed statistically and findings presented graphically for easy reference. The findings showed that the employees satisfaction and effects with workplace based on leaves and leaves policies in organization. Conclusion: From the observation based on survey, we analysis that the overall employee engagement and employee motivation is satisfactory. The company provides best HR policies and activities to learn and opportunities for advancement in career. 4
  5. 5. Introduction An attractive employer-sponsored benefits program makes it easier for organizations to retain and attract great employees. According to Job Satisfaction survey report, employee benefits are one of the most important job satisfaction factors for employees. Leave and other employee benefits are important tools in the retention efforts for the current and future workforce. Leave benefits encompass paid and unpaid time off from the workplace for a variety of activities ranging from vacation and sick leave to bereavement leave and jury duty. Paid leave benefits provide employees with the opportunity to recharge and deal with nonwork-related issues; however, their associated costs are considerable. According to the most recent Chamber of Commerce Employee Benefits Study, employer costs associated with paid leave are ranked behind only employer benefits costs for medical and retirement benefits. Even with the high cost of paid leave, this benefit is one of the most frequently offered to employees. Today’s organizations are facing the challenge of designing competitive and attractive paid leave programs for their employees while managing the related costs and administration requirements associated with operations of these programs, especially in the current economic climate. Company developed this report to provide insight into what organizations offer in the area of paid time off. The report examines aspects of paid time off plans, vacation leave, sick leave, personal days, holidays and bereavement leave. It also presents data from a recent poll on unscheduled time off in the workplace. 5

  8. 8. Objective of study: Leave Policies A leave of absence is time allowed away from work, generally requested by an employee, to cover unusual circumstances occurring in the employee’s life. The leave of absence is used when the employee’s time off from work is not covered under an employer’s existing benefits such as sick leave, paid vacation, paid holidays, and paid time off. PURPOSE OF LEAVE: Leave is granted to employees with the good intention of providing rest, recuperation of health and for fulfilling social obligations. This provides for a healthy and efficient staff for the company. LEAVE YEAR AND APPLICABILITY:  Leave is not a matter of right.  Sanctioning of leave is at Management discretion based on exigencies of business or seriousness of the case.  Leave year is from 1st January to 31st December.  Eligible leave is credited to the employees on the 1st of January every year.  The different types of leaves given under the policy are:   Sick Leave (SL)  Earned Leave (EL)  Maternity Leave (ML)   Casual Leave (CL) Loss Of Pay (LOP) The Leave policy is applicable for all permanent staff of the company and as well as contract workers.  Employees who are appointed during the course of the year shall be entitled to the above leaves on pro-rate basis.  Employees whose date of joining service falls between 1 st to the 15th of a month are entitled to get the leave credit for that month. 8
  9. 9.  Employees whose date of joining service falls between 16 th to the end of the month are not entitled for the leave credit for that month.  If an employee is relieved on any day between 1st to 15th of a month, then he / she is not entitled for leaves due for that month.  If an employee happens to leave on any day between 16 th to the end of the month then he / she is entitled for leaves due for that month. The survey aims at gauging level of satisfaction based on leaves, know the underlying causes and the general impact on the work place and work culture. Directi as a company motivating youth and attracting young generation crowd through flexible company policies and work environment. Also observe impact of satisfaction through various factors such as     Flexible Working hours Flexible leave policies Five days working Flexible Working conditions 9

Cons – Well settled individuals at junior management and lower levels, makes it difficult to ascertain growth for a new employee “An OK place” Pros – We work on interesting technology. Open Source is encouraged. There is a lot of freedom to choose what you work on. Cons – A over-engineering culture. Ad hoc management processes. Occasional micro-management. An inability to attract experienced lateral hires. 19

From the above trend it can be concluded that the HR department have very good leave policies and employees are satisfied with flexible leave policies Also HR department effectively with employees in an organization and good communication between manager and HR dept. B. From the above trend it was found that both monetary as well as non monetary benefits are prevalent in the company. The employees are motivated with the company initiatives and both monetary as well as non monetary incentives are important to them. 20
  21. 21. Analysis From the above findings, we can say that the company shares a very healthy relationship with its employees and helps them grow as individuals. Thus, it proves that the employee expectations are met by the management. The relevant questionnaire reveals the attitude of employees towards the management is good and the level of satisfaction among the employees which is very high. By the very nature of the industry, employee engagement activities happen on a large scale. This could be due to the kind of employees a service industry would usually hire. Employee engagement activities: There are several employee engagement activities that are carried out in order to keep the employees motivated. The company operates for 5 days a week and alternate Saturdays are working. On the working Saturday they have various engagement activities planned. Whereas I recognize how critical extrinsic motivation is–we all need to be rewarded fairly for the job that we do-in my experience the most effective factors relating to employee motivation are related to intrinsic motivation: 1. Empowerment 2. Growth 21
  22. 22. 3. Inclusion 4. Purpose 5. Trust Accuracy of information is also very necessary in this industry as the data contains of patient’s medical information. Hence the employees are reviewed on a continuous basis. The best performer or the person who exceeds the targets is rewarded too. Good work environment, transparency What are the main reasons because of which employees leave the organization? Salary constraints, better opportunities. What does the company do to create a work environment which ensures employees are more productive and motivated? Directi encourages employees to be what they are and be comfortable while working. One of the most motivating factors is casual wear. 24
