  • 1. A social utility that helps people communicate more efficiently with their friends, family and coworkers. The company develops technologies that facilitate the sharing of information through the social graph, the digital mapping of people real-world social connections.
  • 2. Ages of Facebook Users 5% 5% 17% 21% < 18 yrs 18-25 yrs 26-35 yrs 36-45 yrs > 45 yrs 52% Even though the majority of Facebook users are in the 18 to 25 age range, there is still a large diversity of users.

Effective Communication • Allows for friends, family, co-workers, and companies to communicate with one another in an efficient manner. • Helps us publicize our personal thoughts, opinions, information, and ideas through: – Friends lists – Chat – Applications – Notes – Events – Status updates – Groups – Wall posts – Photo sharing – and many more – Personal profile • By making this information public, you as a user communicate who you are and what you do in your everyday life.

Advertising on Facebook • Facebook is used as a marketing tool for companies and other organizations wishing to target to a specific market. • Anything you do on Facebook (I.e. write on a friends wall, join a group, attend an event, comment on a photo), is recorded and used to target • Personal profiles communicate your background through information you provide such as: – Interests – Political views – Gender – Religion – Relationship status – Favourites (I.e. movies, music, books, hobbies, quotes, etc.) – Networks (I.e. school, workplace, city, or region) Examples:

Get Connected • Facebook gives people the power to share and makes the world more open and connected • News feeds and mini-feeds announces personal information to your friends and networks – Status updates – New photos – Wall posts – Events – Groups – And much more • Privacy settings can be modified to limit what is published in the news feed and mini-feed
  • 6. Facebook has been averaging over 250,00 new registrations per day since January of 2007 and active users are doubling every 6 months.
