I enjoyed this presentation. The reiteration/recap was fine with me.

Good points, Richard, thanks. I appreciate that you took the time to offer a critique. What’s really funny is that my own pet peeve is when people misuse 'impact' as a verb, and here I am unwittingly doing the same with 'leverage.' Guilty as charged!

This is great, common-sense advice and it is good to be reminded about it. It also makes we want to go back and look at Seth Godin’s stuff again, as I have already referred to him once this morning on another subject.

My only (slight) criticisms would be 1) Nine and a half minutes isn’t very long but I think this could easily be done in about three, it was definitely losing my attention a little towards the end. 2) Just a pet peeve but leverage isn’t a verb it’s a noun. I know that I am swimming against the tide with this (and I do recognise that language and usage is fluid) but rather than 'how to leverage trust' it should be 'how to lever trust'.

  2. Topics for this presentation:
    • Say Hello to PAT
    • Do You have Permission?
    • Your Attention, Please!
    • It’s a Matter of Trust
    • Leveraging PAT
  3. Say Hello to PAT
    • It doesn’t matter what kind of blogger you are... you need to know PAT.
    • PAT:
    • P ermission
    • A ttention
    • T rust
    • Without PAT, nobody will click on your ads, nobody will click on your affiliate links, or buy your products or services.
    • No PAT =
  4. Do You have Permission?
    • Seth Godin championed the idea of permission marketing.
    • Permission is an asset given to you by people in exchange for something of value.
    • Giving something that is unasked-for and unwanted is SPAM.
  5. Your Attention, Please!
    • Once you have permission, you then have attention.
    • High degree of permission = high degree of attention.
    • Attention = TIME
    • Attention = Time = Mindshare
  6. It’s a Matter of Trust
    • Once you have permission and attention , you have the opportunity to earn trust...
    • ...and earn it you must!
    • Trust is difficult to win...
    • ...and easy to lose!
    • Trust =
    • Greater Permission
    • More Attention
    • More
  7. Leveraging PAT
    • PAT takes time.
    • Permission is given in exchange for value—you must provide value .
    • Attention is given in proportion to value.
    • Overselling or selling out = loss of trust
  8. Review
    • Provide value to get permission.
    • Permission gives you attention, value keeps it.
    • Attention leads to trust, and trust leads to conversion.
