THE DYNAMICS OF CULTURAL ASSUMPTIONS • Small group cultural activity: “Loving Your Leader” • Perceptions, assumptions and expectations of leaders Outcomes : Opportunity to experience leadership perceptions arising from a cross-cultural activity. 3. EXPLORING THE CONCEPTS OF LEADERSHIP • “Leadership” as viewed in different organizational and cultural settings? • What is an effective “leader”? • Expectations of multicultural leadership • An assessment of your own leadership style Outcomes : Realization that not everyone holds the same definition of effective leaders and that truly high performance leadership is situational. 4. LINKING LEADERSHIP TO “CULTURE” • Levels of culture (deep and surface levels) • A model of culture as it affects how we work together • Cultural self-awareness (e.g. Asian, European, North American, etc.) Outcomes : Better knowledge of our own individual culture and how it drives the way we lead and participate in teams. Participants will gain a better understanding of how their “world view” is shaped by their cultural values, beliefs and attitudes. They will gain keener insights on ways to modify their leadership styles and expectations, achieving greater results in working with those who are different. 5. CULTURAL VALUE DIFFERENCES • Value contrasts among cultures • The values matrix tool: A small group activity • How values affect leadership norms Outcomes : An approach into one's own cultural values and how they impact perceptions of leadership in other cultures. The participants evaluate their own cultural values and beliefs, providing them with a baseline for viewing and evaluating other cultures.
