Perplexed Marketing Pitch

 1. 1. Marketing Pitch for By Sofia Machado, Jack D’souza and Joanna Dolan
 2. 2. Ideas/Synopsis

Our main idea for our teaser trailer will be following the deteriorating mental state of a teenage girl haunted by her split personality.

Because we are making a teaser trailer we will have to portray our storyline through various shots. Each shot will need to be effective and eye catching so the we can truly sell the film to our target audiences.

We have to decided to create a teaser trailer for a psychological thriller, This genre is a sub-genre of a Thriller so has many of the same conventions. This genre gives us a lot to work with.

We will use a steady pace at the beginning of our trailer and as the tension and suspense increases so will the pace. We will emphasise the speed increase with short, fast cuts accompanied by fast paced music with a heavy beat.

The teaser trailer will focus on the two main characters; Lilly Black, the teenage girl, and her split personality. Other characters may be briefly involved to emphasise a specific event.

The desired effect of this teaser trailer is to leave the audience surious and wanting to find out more about Lilly and her ordeals.

 3. 3. Plot

Story begins by following the life of a normal teenage girl. The audience are not given any hints as to what is going to happen or why this girl’s life is not as normal as it seems. Its not until a mysterious girl appears everywhere the main character, Lilly Black, goes. At first the mysterious figure seems harmless but as the film continues Lilly cant shift her new follower. When she confides in a friend about her problem she finds out that it is only her that can see the girl. This leads to her finding out that the mysterious figure is not just following her, it is part of her. Lilly struggles to come to terms with her new found split personality and certain events lead to the complete deterioration of her mental state. The film will follow her trials and ordeals.

 4. 4. Similar Trailers

Here are some trailers we have taken inspiration from.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HYVrHkYoY80 – Shutter Island

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5dVQfzjDS4 – The butterfly effect

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppP9TvaAqg8 – Secret Window

We like the fast pacing and cuts used in these trailers. We also liked the effective shots and transistions.

 5. 5. Magazine covers

We are undecided on whether we will be using EMPIRE or TOTAL FILM to promote our film. We have been comparing the two to see which ones would be most suitable for our teaser trailer.

 6. 6. Magazine Covers
 7. 7. Posters Ideally our own poster would be placed on billboards, outside cinemas, on bus stops etc just like our inspirational posters were.
 8. 8. Location(s)

We need to have convincing locations that are accessible and near college.

We’ve decided to use some college classrooms with white walls for scenes that involve isolation or scenes showing the mental state of our protagonist.

We’ve also decided to use castle field house as a realistic setting for our characters home life.

For our more mysterious shots we are going to use the red tree in Reigate as it is great for symbolism.

 9. 9. Branston and staffords elements

Style- Increasing pace, suspense and tension emphasised by fast cuts and fast paced sound.

Characters- 2 stereotypical characters for a psychological thriller, a main character with an unstable mental disposition, a villain/criminal/supernatural being

Target audience- seeing as our main character is a teenager the age group of our target audience is most likely to be 16-19 years. Our film is not aimed at any particular gender.
