  2. 2. <ul><li>Wolverhampton is a city in the West Midlands, which is a county in central England </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>The earliest record of a settlement dates back to 985AD, when King Ethelred II gave land to Lady Wulfruna </li></ul><ul><li>The area became known as Wulfruna’s Heantune, meaning Wulfruna’s High Town. From this we get the name Wolverhampton </li></ul>
  4. 4. <ul><li>Wolverhampton has a long history in manufacturing, starting with weaving and wool products moving on to metal crafts in the 1700’s </li></ul><ul><li>This includes the famous Chubb company who make locks and safes </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>In the 20th Century, transport became a major industry with bicycles, motor cycles, cars, trams, buses and air planes all being built here </li></ul><ul><li>Today, Wolverhampton retains a thriving aero-space industry supplying control systems to most of the world’s airlines </li></ul>
  6. 6. <ul><li>Wolverhampton has a population of over 236,900 people living within the city area, according to 2006 census </li></ul><ul><li>27% of these are from ethnic minorities, which is higher than the national average </li></ul>
