Off Ball - Importance <ul><li>The game CAN NOT be officiated properly without it! </li></ul><ul><li>10 Players….2 or 3 Officials </li></ul><ul><li>1 official will always be officiating on ball - that leaves up to 9 players for the other official(s). </li></ul><ul><li>Prevents Rough Play </li></ul><ul><li>Freedom of movement. </li></ul>
    5. 5. “ Off Ball” <ul><li>You can be “on ball” AND “off ball” at the same time! </li></ul><ul><li>You need strong “off ball” officiating from all 3 officials not just the Center! </li></ul><ul><li>Must communicate well so that everyone knows what happened. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Say “OFFENSE” or “ILLEGAL” and point the opposite direction. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>You must be strong with your signals! </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Let partners know immediately what you have and how play will resume. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>No strength/confidence in signals means coaches, players, or partners will have no confidence in the call. </li></ul>

Everyone in the gym sees these fouls. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Difference b/w a good official and a mediocre official is “Off Ball” officiating. </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Self-Evaluation: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>How often do get surprised by something in your primary? </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>When watching yourself on video, force yourself to NOT watch the ball and see what you missed. </li></ul></ul>

    14. 14. Off Ball - Review <ul><li>Look for signs </li></ul><ul><li>Good “Off Ball” coverage will reduce rough play and problems in your games. </li></ul><ul><li>Know the status of the ball </li></ul><ul><li>Strong Signals & Good Communication </li></ul>
