    2. REEEP was established to accelerate RE/EE focusing on underdeveloped and emerging economies
      • REEEP acts as a market facilitator by reducing market barriers for renewables and energy efficiency systems through focus on:
          • policy/regulation development and improvement
          • finance and business models
      • REEEP is driven by a bottom-up approach to meet the real needs on the ground
      • REEEP works with governments as well as with the private sector
      • REEEP is committed to the achievement of MDGs and aims to improve access to sustainable clean energy for the poor
      • REEEP is unique in combining the benefit of renewables and energy efficiency
    3. Well established regional and global network REEEP comprises 270 partners + 3000 friends
      • REEEP Partners include 46 governments:
      • all the G7 countries and 3 “Plus 5” countries (SA, Brazil, Mexico )
      • States and key agencies from China and India ( NDRC, IREDA )
      • Development Banks and other International Organisations

      • support REEEP’s mission – accelerating the uptake of renewable energy and energy efficiency
      • contribute to two major objectives
        • reduce greenhouse gas emissions
        • improve access to clean energy for poor
      • geographically focus on “plus five” countries and selected LDCs
      • concentrate on the two types targeted actions which can deliver highest impact and replication
        • assisting with establishing legal and regulatory frameworks
        • developing innovative finance and business models to make RE and EE a bankable proposition
      • emphasize impacts and outputs which can be replicated
      • be amplified by REEEP services and strategic actions

      • Aim: integrate sustainable energy concerns into Chinese city planning efforts
      • Support the Panzhihua Sustainable Energy City (SEC) pilot project with a toolkit to improve Panzhihua’s use of renewables and energy efficiency
      • Conduct analysis of current Panzhihua’s clean energy status quo and train local stakeholders on RE and EE
      • Develop a Sustainable Energy Project Manual
      • Develop Panzhihua SEC Plan & Action Plan
      • Project partner: ACPA

    13. Development of an energy consumption quota for government agencies in Chongqing, China
      • Develop energy consumption quotas for the Chinese Chongqing municipal government agencies
      • Write implementation guide-lines to use in meeting quotas
      • Hold training workshop aimed at financial managers and energy managers in local government
      • Demonstrate the leading role of government in the process of building an energy-efficient society
      • Inspire other cities to implement similar quotas
      • Project partner: Chongqing Energy Conservation Center
    14. Energy efficiency technology transformation in metal-casting in southern India
      • Accelerate adoption of cleaner and more energy-efficient technology in the Coimbatore cluster of foundries
      • Strengthen local supply side delivery systems and increase industry demand for the new technology
        • Enhance capacity of at least 20 local service providers
        • Train at least 100 furnace operators
        • Implement three energy efficiency technology projects at cluster level
      • Save 275,000 MWh energy per year
      • Reduce CO2 emissions by 100,000 tonnes per year
      • Project partner: The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI)
    15. Helping cities in Brazil to adopt biogas technology for sanitation and power
      • Work with selected Brazilian cities to promote waste-to- energy sources as a way of or addressing sanitation issues and reducing GHG emissions.
      • Target 3-5 cities to establish senior-level commitment to project
      • Develop Implementation Guide on landfill and waste water methane use for municipalities
      • Implement a training package with technical meetings and workshops
      • Add experience to database of case studies to be shared with cities around the world
      • Project partner: ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability
    16. Combined legislative and financial mechanisms for solar water heater mass rollout
      • Increase the uptake of solar water heaters (SWH) in Cape Town and Ekurhuleni through legislation and financial mechanisms
      • Support for City of Cape Town leading to implementation of SWH bylaw leading to:
        • additional 10,000 SWH units pa
        • 6.25 MW pa, saving 20,000 t CO2 pa
      • Development an energy efficient water heating bylaw for Ekurhuleni
      • Creation of SWH financing mechanisms that can accelerate mass rollout across South Africa
      • Project partners: Sustainable Energy Africa (SEA), City of Cape Town and Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality
    17. Support for an innovative municipal water-supply linked small hydro scheme in Durban, South Africa
      • Support for development of two hydro sites that exploit altitude drops in a new 70km water pipeline to Durban
      • Complete detailed site evaluations including geo-technical and grid connection
      • Undertake detailed plant design (hydro package, buildings, civil and electrical)
      • Conduct detailed environmental and social impact studies
      • Finalise power off-take agreements
      • Scheme will produce 40,000 MWh/year
      • Reduces pressure on electricity generation in South Africa, less outages
      • Project partner: Lindon Corporation
    18. Energy policies and regulations for the built environment in Bangalore, India
      • Help frame energy management policies and regulations for new and existing buildings in Bangalore
      • Develop specific proposals covering:
        • Design for reduced energy demand
        • Cooling/heating systems
        • Energy efficient lighting requirements
        • Renewables incl. solar water heating
      • Create methods for life cycle savings analysis to assist building professionals
      • Work out financial incentives to support the policies and regulations.
      • Develop training modules and web-based tool for project dissemination
      • Project partner: TERI University
