  • Please make a very big deal about this. Our free and reduced lunch count affects grants and services that our students receive.
  • Three day rule – we are taking this seriously this year. No exceptions. Family Leave – request must be made at least two weeks in advance. Student must have less than seven absences for the school year. Family leave is granted for up to three days (educational opportunity) Medical documentation – student is unexcused unless he/she has a note from a doctor’s office

    • 3. AYP Results 2009-2010 <ul><li>Blue Ridge Elementary met 16 out of 17 target goals (94.1%). The school report card will be made available as soon as it is released by the Department of Instruction in Raleigh. </li></ul>
    • 4. Arrival <ul><li>Before 7:30 MUST be enrolled in the Before School Program </li></ul><ul><li>7:30 – 7:45 Students report to cafeteria or gym </li></ul><ul><li>7:45 Students report to classrooms </li></ul><ul><li>8:00 Class begins!!! </li></ul><ul><li>After 8:00 Students counted tardy </li></ul>

Arrival Reminders <ul><li>Parents should drop off students at the front entrance. </li></ul><ul><li>Exceptions: </li></ul><ul><li>Pre-K parents must walk their child to the media center (state law). </li></ul><ul><li>Kindergarten parents may walk their child to the cafeteria the first </li></ul><ul><li>two weeks of school. </li></ul>
    • 6. Dismissal <ul><li>Bus Riders are dismissed at 2:35 </li></ul><ul><li>Car Riders are dismissed at 2:45 </li></ul><ul><li>Students are required to bring a note if going home a different way. </li></ul><ul><li>All changes regarding student transportation MUST be made before 2:00. </li></ul>
    • 7. Pick-Ups <ul><li>Dismissal procedures and traffic patterns will be the same as last year. </li></ul><ul><li>The instructional day does not end until 2:35. </li></ul><ul><li>Early pick-ups should be used for appointments and emergencies only. </li></ul>
    • 8. Reminders <ul><li>Classroom interruptions are for emergencies only. </li></ul><ul><li>All messages during the instructional day will be forwarded to teacher’s voice mail. </li></ul><ul><li>All visitors must report to the front office. </li></ul>
    • 9. Buses <ul><li>Students must ride the bus in which they are assigned. </li></ul><ul><li>All bus changes must be approved by Mrs. Reeder. </li></ul><ul><li>Students will not be allowed to change buses at the middle school. There will be no out-of-district transportation. </li></ul>

Bus Discipline <ul><li>1 st offense – driver warning/office referral </li></ul><ul><li>2 nd offense – office referral, parent contact </li></ul><ul><li>3 rd offense – bus suspension (3-5 days) </li></ul><ul><li>4 th offense – bus suspension (5-10 days) </li></ul><ul><li>5 th offense – bus suspension (10-15 days) </li></ul><ul><li>6 th offense – permanent bus suspension </li></ul>

Response to Instruction (RtI) <ul><li>Universal screening three times per year (fall, winter, spring) in reading, math, writing, and behavior </li></ul><ul><li>Tiered supports increasing in intensity for students demonstrating need </li></ul><ul><li>Frequent progress monitoring for students receiving supplemental supports </li></ul><ul><li>Parents are involved from the beginning in the problem-solving process </li></ul>

What it means to you… <ul><li>If your child is performing well, he or she will be screened three times per year to ensure progress is maintained </li></ul><ul><li>If concerns arise, you will be invited to a meeting with the classroom teacher to develop a plan to help your child succeed </li></ul><ul><ul><li>If this occurs, you will receive frequent updates regarding your child’s progress in response to this plan and may be invited to future meetings </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>You will play a critical role in the problem-solving process to ensure the success of your child </li></ul></ul>
    • 19. Lice <ul><li>Students will be sent home if lice/nits are found in child’s hair. Cannot return until child is “nit-free”. </li></ul>
    • 20. Dress Code <ul><li>No headgear or sunglasses in building </li></ul><ul><li>No halter tops, strapless shirts, or spaghetti straps </li></ul><ul><li>No tummies showing </li></ul><ul><li>Shorts/skirts must have at least a 3” inseam </li></ul>
    • 21. Photos Needed!!! <ul><li>We are looking for photos of children from summer break. If you have some you would like to share, please give them to your child’s teacher. These photos will not be returned so make sure you have a copy at home. </li></ul>
