  1. 1. Evermore – Light Surrounding You9 SHOT ANALYSISBy Rebecca Clarke
  2. 2. This wide shot establishes the surroundings and thecharacters action/position in the beginning of the video. Thevideo instantly conforms to the stereotypes of an indiegenre because of the characters costume and its unusualsetting.
  3. 3. This extreme wide shot shows all three band members . Atthis part of the song the lyrics are not amplified but the paceof the song is in time with the camera. The video is shot in asepia tone which creates an urban atmosphere often used inindie or alternative music videos.
  4. 4. This long shot shows the three band members in a differentposition whilst still playing the instruments. Unlike mostvideos, there is no references to other texts which conformsto the alternative genre.
  5. 5. This medium close up of the vocalist is a typical conventionof Goodwins theory. In this part we see the characters facialexpressions close up and it appears rare in this video to seethem. This could be contradicting the music and visuals andsubverting from the conventions.
  6. 6. This low angle shot of the lights moving along the floor isillustrated by the music and visuals ‘See the lightsurrounding you’. The sun setting in the follows the storylineas the lights travel through the urban area, again there areno other people around making the audience focus on theband and main characters.
  7. 7. This medium close up of the female character in the videoallows us to see her facial expressions and body movements. It shows us that she looks worried and is illustrated by thelyrics. Her costume also links in with the indie/urban settingand genre of the video. There is no voyeurism within thisvideo or particular treatment towards women.
  8. 8. This extreme long shot follows the female character alongthe road. Because the movement of the lights and cameramovement pace is slow, the atmosphere created is calm andconforms to an indie genre. In comparison to a rock genrethere would be fast pace movement and a lot morehappening within the clip.
  9. 9. This wide shot again shows the three band members from adifferent angle. This part of the clip the lights are lit up andagain there is a relationship between the lyrics and visuals asthe lights are surrounding the band. In this part thereappears to have more close ups of the main vocalist then anyother part of the music video.
  10. 10. This high angle shot gives an overall view of the band and thelights surrounding them, linking the visuals and lyrics byillustrating them. This ending scene could be stereotype froma rock genre because of the dark lighting and close up of theguitar and drums.
