  1. 1. Facebook, LinkedIn & Twitter for Dummies -- HANDS ON, HOW TO! Presented by Marney Kirk March 11, 2010 1
  2. 2. Today you will:  Create an account in Facebook, LinkedIn & Twitter  Learn how to Login for future sessions  Find friends/associates  Write your first status update  Make your first connection  Tweet your first tweet 2

  4. 4. SIGN UP FOR AN ACCOUNT  First Name, Last Name, E-mail Address, New Password, Sex, Birthday, hit green SIGN UP button. 4
  5. 5. LOGIN TO YOUR ACCOUNT (once you have one!)  Email address & password: Hit BLUE LOGIN button. 5
  6. 6. FRIEND YOUR NEIGHBOR  Click FRIENDS tab at top left of blue part of screen 6
  7. 7. Friend your neighbor cont.  Choose “Find Friends” on column on left side of screen. (2nd item) 7
  8. 8. Friend your neighbor cont.  Scroll down page to “Search for People”. Enter your neighbor’s email address 8
  9. 9. Friend your neighbor cont.  Click ADD AS FRIEND on right side of screen.  Now click on the “Home” tab. Add as friend 9
  10. 10. Friend your neighbor cont.  Now, on the upper right hand side, there is a REQUESTS area. You should now have 1 FRIEND REQUEST.  Click on that request. 1 Friend Request 10
  11. 11. Friending your neighbor cont.  ACCEPT this request.  You have your first Facebook Friend! You have a friend request Accept 11
  12. 12. Now let’s start your profile  Click on PROFILE tab  On left column, choose “EDIT MY PROFILE” 12
  13. 13. Start Building your Profile  We’ll come by and see how you are doing.  Enter as much info as you can! Everywhere there is a picture of a pencil, you can edit! 13
  14. 14. Add a Profile Photo  Hover over your shadow pic  A little box will pop up saying “Change picture.” Click on it.  Choose “upload a photo”  Choose “Browse” & find photo you brought or one we took earlier. 14

  16. 16. CREATE YOUR ACCOUNT  First Name, Last Name, E-mail Address, New Password, hit green JOIN NOW button. 16
  17. 17. EDIT YOUR PROFILE  Enter info! Where it says Edit in BLUE, you should ENTER INFO! Upload the photo you brought (or we took earlier!) 17
  18. 18. Add your Neighbor as a Connection  Click on “Add Connections” in green at top right of screen  Enter your neighbor’s email address & click “send invitations” For Future adding of connections, this is where you will search! 18
  19. 19. Back to your INBOX. Accept your connection invitation!  Click on the invitation Your neighbor Today  Accept Congratulations, you have your first connection! Accept 19
  20. 20. TWITTER  www.twitter.com  Click green “Sign up now” button 20
  21. 21. CREATE YOUR ACCOUNT  Enter your first name, last name, create a username, password, enter your email address, the security words, and then click the grey “Create My Account” button. 21
  22. 22. Settings  Fill this info out! Short answers, but details are important! Then click PICTURE and upload that photo! If you have a website – type it in here. Your Bio – who are you? You will then scroll down & Where are you hit “save” located? (Either home or office) 22
  23. 23. Follow Your Neighbor  What is their username?  Type it in! Click “Find People” Enter your neighbor’s username to find them! 23
  24. 24. Follow Your Neighbor cont.  (And our President!) Click this button to automatically Then click follow them! “Home” and they will be in your “tweet roll”! 24
  25. 25. Now TWEET something!  “What’s happening?” Your FIRST TWEET! What’s on your mind? (How about I am in a great class taught by @realtormarney ?! ) 25
  26. 26. CONGRATULATIONS! You tweeted!  Now how do you figure out who to “follow”? SEARCH! What interests you? Your city? Your town? Real Estate? Wine? Beer? Dance? Enter here – and find who is talking *your language*! Don’t forget to click the magnifying glass to do the search! 26

SO NOW WHAT?  Set aside time to visit these sites to familiarize yourself with them more.  Search to find friends, co-workers, connections, and people to follow  Don’t let frustrations stop you from using these sites. Take your time.  Schedule time to visit these sites on a regular basis. Choose how often you want to be on there – daily or weekly… FINAL THOUGHTS:  Facebook – when you think of people to find, consider high school, college, past clients…search for them in the search for people function!  LinkedIn – very much like an online resume for your business  Twitter – if you don’t know what to write, follow people and see what they have to say. Then respond to them! Get into conversations with people! 27
