In short, but the Legislature is about to contemplate an unwise move for health insurance that would increase the town's contribution for retirees in MANY towns. The estimated cost for Chelmsford is over $580K annually. Folks need to contact the legislature on this and ask that the amendment be defeated.
A Message from the Town Manager:
Last week, I worked with officials at the MMA and the MTF to oppose the Senate langauge. This explains why Chelmsford's costs are highlighted in the MTF study and in the news accounts of this issue. At that time, I also sent information regarding the Chelmsford cost impact to our legislative delegation. I also spoke to Senator Fargo earlier this afternoon about this concern. Some version of municipal health insurance reform legislation will come out of the State budget conference committee report. My advice is to encourage people to contact their legislators about this issue ASAP.
