  • Lisa Intro
  • Deb LEAD: Traditional research approach: Find the answer and leave no stone unturned. Librarians hate to come up empty handed even though they know “no or not there or not available is sometimes the answer.
Research output is data dump – not curated – with a few exceptions – a legislative history by its very nature has a structure.
Analysis, summation, evaluation of the data doesn’t usually happen.
Citations, search strategy are often included but quantity sometimes overtakes quality in delivering research results- with the best of intentions.
  • Peter:

Google “self-service” model becoming the norm
    Electronic resources replacing print
Physical space no longer the center for research
More focus on need to combine internal data with external information

Bullet point #4, really exciting for LAC/Manzama – we want to help transform the library into a “centerpiece” of activity. It’s not enough to think we subscribe to these subscribers, we are set – you never know where the knowledge advantage will come from.

Other administrative departments forge ahead by adding research capabilities

Bullet point # 5: other administrative departments, soon it will be lawyers will forge ahead as tools become accessible: basecamp, dropbox, linkedIn, etc.

  • Deb: Keeping current requires constant administration and tweaking – and that means proactively keeping tabs on the request/need/topic--
  • Pete:

    And How Do We Evolve?
    Develop a sound strategy
    Redefine our roles
    Expand our client base
    Shift our approach to service
    Define success
    Measure Results
    Improve
  • Deb lead, then Peter
  • Transition slide, review where we came from – how to move forward
  • Insert case study from manatt DEB
  • Peter
Engagement = results, China Newsletter; Content provided directly to the client
  • Deb - Being the expert + technology = more than the sum of their parts
  • Peter lead

Deb: Need to emphasize this our combined company approach/value prop – obviously LAC expert curators could be switched out for the firm’s library/CI staff. Or LAC can be a silent partner to make the library a super-charged group…we could them get there faster
  • Deb
  • Peter: I believe in this topic: Rise of the Library and have seen it in action. # 2 Don’t be afraid to bring in consultants into the equation;

Deb: Parting thoughts – opportunity for questions.
