  • 2. James 5:13-20 Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. 14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore, confess your sins toone another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
  • 3. 17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and heprayed fervently that it might not rain, and for threeyears and six months it did not rain on the earth. 18 Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit. 19 My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, 20 let him know that whoeverbrings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

Suffering is External Trouble Sickness is Internal Suffering 1. The Sickness May Be Physical or Spiritual 2. The Ill Person Calls the Elders to Pray 3. The Elders Pray/Anoint in the Lord’s name Two Types of Anointing were Practiced – Medical and Sacramental

And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.Some Sickness is Related to Sin1 Cor. 11:29 For anyone who eats and drinks withoutdiscerning the body eats and drinks judgment onhimself. 30 That is why many of you are weak andill, and some have died.

It isnot “expecting” what we hope, but “expecting” Godto hear and answer.

The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.Confession = lit. continually admit your sins to oneanother – means to agree and admit sin and guilt.Prayer = Not just the elders – everyoneHealing from Sin and Illness can be Connected tothe Actions of Confession and Prayer

Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. 2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. 3 For ifanyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
