                                                  GOVERNOR

Dear Rotarians and friends,

On behalf of the Rotary Club of West Perth, I would like to invite you to the last Conference
for District 9450.

It is to be a Conference of Celebration – of Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow.

The Conference program will be wide and varied. It will educate, entertain and raise your
passions. The Conference will showcase a number of our great projects from yesteryear,
trace their progress and forecast their future. Our 50th Anniversary gift to Western Australia,
the Medical School at the University of Western Australia will be one. The Chancellor of
UWA, Michael Chaney, will be one of our key note speakers. Other projects will be brand
new, on show for the first time, some straight from their international launch at the Rotary
International Convention in Birmingham.

In addition, there will be a number of speakers on topics of general interest to inform and
entertain, together with a host of displays in the House of Friendship. Each club is
encouraged to book a display booth and showcase your own projects.

Overall, we want you to have fun! Renew acquaintances with fellow Rotarians from other
clubs, meet new friends and welcome the Youth Exchange students and Rotaractors in our
midst.

We have a wonderful, hardworking conference committee who will ensure that your needs
are satisfied and your questions answered, while still managing to keep the conference on
time and our hunger satisfied. The Governor’s Banquet at the newly extended Hillarys Yacht
Club promises to be a highlight. However there are limited seats, so get in early.

In latter years our conference attendance has been shrinking. Please help us reverse that
trend, register now, put on your finery and help us truly Celebrate Rotary.

I hope to see many of you at the District Conference next April.

Yours in Rotary

Geoff Simpson
District Governor D9450

Ralph has struggled for adequate funds for equipment to carry out his vital work, and hopefully this recognition will lift his profile even higher and enable him to attract extra funds allowing his full energies to go into the area of research rather than so much of it having to be channelled into fundraising. Rhonda Parker, the Australian Local Hero for WA, in her brief speech made a wonderful statement, which I’d like to repeat. She said she is part of a Team and that there is no ‘I’ in the word Team which stands for ‘Together Everyone Achieves More’. True in all situations, particularly Rotary. Working together we definitely achieve more and globally, Rotary has the power to really make a difference. On a sadder note, we have received a letter of Australian of the Year Awards (WA) Sam Walsh (Rio Tinto), Ken Collins and Prof. Ralph and Georgie resignation from Roh who Martins Rotary Club of Freshwater Bay, District 9450! 1

  • 6. AN INVITATION FROM YOUR DISTRICT GOVERNOR Dear Rotarians and friends, On behalf of the Rotary Club of West Perth, I would like to invite you to the last Conference for District 9450. It is to be a Conference of Celebration – of Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow. The Conference program will be wide and varied. It will educate, entertain and raise your passions. The Conference will showcase a number of our great projects from yesteryear, trace their progress and forecast their future. Our 50th Anniversary gift to Western Australia, the Medical School at the University of Western Australia will be one. The Chancellor of UWA, Michael Chaney, will be one of our key note speakers. Other projects will be brand new, on show for the first time, some straight from their international launch at the Rotary International Convention in Birmingham. In addition, there will be a number of speakers on topics of general interest to inform and entertain, together with a host of displays in the House of Friendship. Each club is encouraged to book a display booth and showcase your own projects. Overall, we want you to have fun! Renew acquaintances with fellow Rotarians from other clubs, meet new friends and welcome the Youth Exchange students and Rotaractors in our midst. We have a wonderful, hardworking conference committee who will ensure that your needs are satisfied and your questions answered, while still managing to keep the conference on time and our hunger satisfied. The Governor’s Banquet at the newly extended Hillarys Yacht Club promises to be a highlight. However there are limited seats, so get in early. In latter years our conference attendance has been shrinking. Please help us reverse that trend, register now, put on your finery and help us truly Celebrate Rotary. I hope to see many of you at the District Conference next April. Yours in Rotary Geoff Simpson District Governor D9450
